As our prayers go out to Carrie Fisher, the dark urgency of "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" only escalates with each passing day. It's a transporting fluke -- one of those rare movies that hit theaters with a timing that's nearly karmic. Oliver Stone's "Wall Street," to name one other example, came out two months after the Oct. 19, 1987, stock market crash, and it seemed to channel all the greed and house-of-cards financial chicanery that caused the crash to happen. But, of course, the film was shot many months before the market plunged. Stone, with his conspiratorial feelers, had tapped into something hovering in the zeitgeist. "Rogue One" has its finger on the pulse in a comparable way -- and that's a real surprise, since the "Star Wars" films, apart from a few throwaway knocks on President George W. Bush, have never existed inside the arena of topicality. Bob Iger, the CEO of Disney, claims that there are "no political statements" in "Rogue One." The funny thing is, I believe him entirely. "Rogue One" wasn't designed to be intensely political. It just turned out that way.

ROGUE ONE seems like the kind of film that would be fun to watch, but ultimately a waste of time. (Too juvenile, at this stage in my life, although I loved the first two STAR WARS films.)
Nevertheless, for the reasons above I had hesitated watching it, because of a left-wing agenda, be it overt or subtle. Someone, anyone who is the underdog wears a halo or, at the very least, has a romantic appeal.
Frankly, I would love to write a sequel. In my scenario, someone has an awakening and realizes that the Empire isn't all that evil and that these gang of rebels are basically a bunch of misfits. But of course, that would never happen, because anyone who is an outsider (especially a non-white male) wears a halo.
Let me get this straight.
If I want relevancy I am supposed to go to a science fiction alternate reality fantasy?
The adults are back in charge, and this is exactly what they are going to dismantle.
Hollyweird propagandists try to equate the Empire to Trump when in fact it’s Trump leading the rebels against the oppressive, progressive, established DNC and RINO lead darkside.
There are no halos in Rogue One. That is chief among the reasons that many of the snowflakes do not like it. Both sides are willing to go to any lengths to win, as is normal in a civil war. The choice of White men as villains has no significance to the story.
Nonsense. You can twist it any way you want. I kept thinking that Donald Trump was part of the Rebel Alliance-—the part that didn’t die.
After all, Reagan was Luke!
It always amazes me that liberals associate the overreaching, all powerful state with Republicans, rather than their own worldview. Projection?
New fake news??? The writer is either naive, a political lackey, or has been living under a rock.
To sum up article: Movie shows great battles between the Rebels and the Empire. But, as the writer sees it, The Empire is now the Trump regime, and the Rebels are the Dims fighting back.
I’ll just post the same thing I put on the other thread about people reading too much into it:
Mmmmmm no. SW is a blank slate that lets you see what you want. You can see the rebels as multicultural to satisfy hippy utopia, or you can see them as a well armed militia. If you choose to see something in SW that makes you made... well, thats on you.
It works both ways. When Obama and the UN are in power they are the dark side.
Per a movie, Rogue One is better than sw vii.
It is really funny though that in real life the liberal socialists who cant tolerate any unbelief/opposition, are the “empire”, but think they are the rebels.
Look at what Obama is doing to this Country and Israel before he leaves office.
“...although I loved the first two STAR WARS films.”
As did I. I also really enjoyed Rogue One. You can tell the reshoots this summer seriously altered the arc of the original storyline for the script.
Wait, you mean the creators weren’t totally neutral in their intent?
Title IX meets Affirmative Action.
Ok fine. Consider Trump supporters to be the first Stormtroopers that can actually hit the target and your on! If these retarded liberals like to think Black Criminals Matter is the rebel alliance, I would be more than happy to Vader the hell out of them.
Everyone’s a hero and everyone is above average.
Seems like most of the fake news they generate, libs are trying to ruin this movie by branding it with signs and symbols that aren't there.
Don't be fooled. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
