RAY DALIO ON TRUMP: 'If You Haven’t Read Ayn Rand Lately, I Suggest That You Do'
businessinsider.com ^ | Dec. 19, 2016

Ray Dalio, the founder of Bridgewater Associates, the world's biggest hedge fund firm, says people should expect a major shift under President-elect Donald Trump.

"Regarding economics, if you haven’t read Ayn Rand lately, I suggest that you do as her books pretty well capture the mindset," he wrote in a LinkedIn post on Monday. "This new administration hates weak, unproductive, socialist people and policies, and it admires strong, can-do, profit makers."

The post continued:

"It wants to, and probably will, shift the environment from one that makes profit makers villains with limited power to one that makes them heroes with significant power. The shift from the past administration to this administration will probably be even more significant than the 1979-82 shift from the socialists to the capitalists in the UK, US, and Germany when Margaret Thatcher, Ronald Reagan, and Helmut Kohl came to power."

Dalio described Trump as a " deal maker who negotiates hard, and doesn’t mind getting banged around or banging others around." He added that the president elect had picked a team of people who are "bold and hell-bent on playing hardball" to enact change in economics, foreign policy, education and environment policies.

"It is increasingly obvious that we are about to experience a profound, president-led ideological shift that will have a big impact on both the US and the world," he said.

Great start by the Donald. He and his people will need the full 16 years to undo Bush-Clinton-Bush-Obama.

Reagan had that destiny too, but I remember dashed hopes around 87-88. His VP and successor eventually crushed all hope.

Pence won’t let that happen.

Satanic: regarding religion, yes.

Regarding economics as a counter to totalitarianism, she’s a genius.

(Here’s where religion and economics don’t necessarily fit into a neat, consistent system.)

Can you provide the evidence that she lived on government assistance in real life?

Being anti-communist and pro-capitalist is evil? Have you ever read her works?

“He then recounted a call he received from a liberal journalist: “How does it feel to have done what you have done? I said what have I done. He said nobody ever in the history of this country has done what you have done. And I said, well, if I lose, then no big deal. And he said no, no, if you lose, it doesn’t matter because this will be talked about forever.”

“And I said it will be talked about more if I win.”

I love this man! He’s nothing less than our second George Washington!

I just asked the same thing. There’s some crazy comments on this thread about Rand. I’m surprised.

The essence of capitalism's foreign policy is free trade--i.e., the abolition of trade barriers, of protective tariffs, of special privileges--the opening of the world's trade routes to free international exchange and competition among the private citizens of all countries dealing directly with one another. During the nineteenth century, it was free trade that liberated the world, undercutting and wrecking the remnants of feudalism and the statist tyranny of absolute monarchies. -- Ayn Rand

The hell with that. Another globalist shill.

She hated an oppressive Communist society. So she projected that onto all nations where none are worthy. She was just another boring NWO globalist hiding behind a fig leaf of capitalism.

Not speaking directly about Ayn but it seems to me if someones hates all border and the concept of a nation state then you hate your own country by default.

She saw what the leftists here were planning. In Atlas Shrugs some of the attitude of a lot of people towards capitalism and successful business has come true today, as well as overbearing government regulations. I believe she was warning other countries not to become like Russia.

9 out of 10 sociopaths highly recommend Ayn Rand. Thankfully, I'm sure Trump can see past her hypocritical insanity and take the bits and pieces that make sense.

Perhaps this is one of those cases where we must separate the real value set of the author from the ideas in the books. Ayn Rand was evil, a cheater, a liar and lived off of social welfare programs... true scum of the earth.

I believe in free trade, as does Trump. But it has not been fair because of bad trade deals and because of our government overbearing regulations and taxation, all of which Trump plans to fix.

Yeah, you’re right. It stands to reason that since she was an “ugly satanic hag” she couldn’t possibly have written anything worth reading.

Don’t think I need the /s!

Ayn Rand’s new crop of readers (including Paul Ryan) do not seem to be aware she was a militant atheist of the same ilk as Madalyn Murray O’Hair.

I’m all over the place, but like really thick and layered works.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I’ve been an avid reader for years, and gradually I began to realize that many books such as you describe were burdened with a great deal of unimportant verbiage before the author finally got to the point. Consequently, almost without being conscious of it, I gravitated away from such tomes and came to favor shorter works that I can read in a couple of evenings. Of course, I’m aware that many of the world’s greatest books are as you’ve described.

Right, but one’s religious beliefs don’t necessarily diminish one’s ability as a writer. And I believe I’ve read that MMO renounced her former beliefs regarding abortion and converted to Christianity.
