Donald Trumps inauguration team is allegedly having trouble finding A-list talent to perform at Trumps swearing in ceremony come January. The reason? They do not want to normalize Trumps presidency. Hot Airs Jazz Shaw explains why this is a stupid idea.
[This is] yet another example of the clueless nature of the L.A. crowd. They worked as their own billion dollar army to defeat Trump, hosting concerts and fundraisers along with showing up alongside Hillary Clinton on the campaign trail. We all saw how that worked out. Im not sure how many more whacks with the clue bat will be required before it begins to sink in. The American people dont need to be preached to by a bunch of pampered film stars or singers when it comes to how best to run the country or what our values should be. The astounding, er success of Miss Sloane on its opening weekend should tell them that nobody is listening other than the liberals who were already drinking the same Kool-Aid anyway.
Hes not wrong. If celebrities choose to boycott the inauguration, theyre demonstrating an inability to live in and deal with reality. Donald Trump will be the next president of the United States whether or not Elton John and company show up at his inauguration, so doubling down on the we dont want to normalize Trump rhetoric makes zero sense. Whats more problematic about this boycott, however, is that its a missed opportunity for these artists to expose their point of view to millions of people who wouldnt normally be receptive to it.
Hollywood types arent the only creative forces attempting to get themselves as far away as they possibly can from anyone whose last name is Trump. Artists are angry that Ivanka Trump buys their very expensive paintings and displays them in her home.
I think there are a lot of artists that are uncomfortable now being incorporated, or leveraged, as part of the Ivanka Trump brand, art dealer Bill Powers told Bloomberg.
Artists and dealers alike have taken to Instagram to vent their frustrations. Theyre reposting with angry messages from the artists photos of Ivanka standing beside works of art.
Underneath a photo of Trump posing in front of a painting by Da Corte, the artist wrote: Dear @Ivankatrump please get my work off of your walls. I am embarrassed to be seen with you,' Bloomberg reports.
Maybe Im missing something, but I thought the whole point of being an artist was to express ideas, thoughts, and perspectives through a medium that others can appreciate and enjoy, even those who think differently. These artists who are embarrassed their work hangs on Ivankas walls arent interested in influencing the environment of a soon-to-be leader. They want their creations to be displayed in a safe space to be admired by only those who agree with them and sheltered from the gazes of those who hold a different view. This attitude is not just cowardly, but also dumb, as theyre making themselves irrelevant to half the country.
This is probably a good time to remind everyone of Bruce Springsteens 1988 performance in East Berlin, which was, according to a man in attendance that night, a nail in the coffin for East Germany.
Im not here for any government, Springsteen said onstage just a year before the Berlin Wall was destroyed. Ive come to play rocknroll for you in the hope that one day all the barriers will be torn down.
To Hollywood elites who have wasted no time in comparing Trump to Putin, his inauguration is their Berlin Wall. To turn down a chance to perform at this upcoming historic moment is to turn down the chance to echo Springsteens sentiments to a nation of people who are so bitterly divided. They should rethink their boycotts and tantrums and instead do what they do best perform and create.

He won without them, he can get inaugurated without them.

I don’t watch Hollywood Garbage anymore. When I want to watch something, I’ll watch KDramas. They are much better than any dreck Hollywood puts out these days.
There will be MILLIONS that take the same approach I took almost 30 years ago.
F%&K Hollywood and the entire entertainment industry.
I have not spent 10 cents on Hollywood since, in fact I make it a point to NEVER purchase Anything I see advertised by Hollywood clowns.
“I would rather watch any of the military bands perform. Make it a patriotic inauguration celebration!! Who needs the Hollyweird crowd?”
We have the winner.
I see a few have said, just swear him in and lets get down to business,
I somewhat agree, and since HOLLYWOOD has their very own way of Accounting, which Mr Trump is fully aware of, maybe WIDESPREAD IRS AUDITS OF HOLLYWOOD IS IN ORDER.
Trump should give a few movie executives a call about a future IRS investigation into their Hollywood accounting practices to dodge taxes.
Mr. Trump has a lot of work to do, starting at 12:01 pm on January 20.
Never mind the BS.
Aren’t the Chicoms trying to get a controlling interest in Hollywood? That would explain a lot.
AS far as I go, is that anyone who openly attacks a political figure with actions like this should be considered un-American and not to be supported. When Obama won, the right wasn’t happy about it, but they determined the rules of the election were followed and they didn’t try to hurt him even to the point of trying to change the election process. And then using every little petty thing to back stab the elected person.
I think Trump should cancel the celebration, and laugh at them. This little game can go both ways. Maybe the entertainment wasn’t good enough for Trump. So he told them to get lost. This celebration wasn’t for him, it was for the country. Let them embarrass the country. And make sure everyone knows about it, everyone.

And they will be flies on the back of the bull with inflated estimates of their own importance.
I like that the Mormon tabernacle choir is going to sing- it’s a solemn occasion and should be treated like one- not a rock concert party. It’s more like church.
“Hollywood’s” recent behavior totally justifies my longstanding commitment to shamelessly pirate every gd movie I can get my hands on ;oD
Right. Every moment spent on entertainment or golf or whatever is a moment lost trying to undo Zero’s betrayals.
Me too! I watch so many movies and NEVER pay a damn cent. I’ll continue as such until these jerk offs shut up.
It would be great for them to list the entertainers who refuse to perform. Then we will know whom to boycott.
Trumps people should just keep contacting lib performers and when they refuse say, “Okay. Thought that’s what you would say, but we’re making a list.”
NOBODY!
Total losers.
