My Polish old man was a tough son of a bitch. He was a breaker boy at 12; Both a mine worker and steel worker. He was all neck and shoulders.
He and my Russian and Lithuanian uncles would argue about Truman and MacArthur when they weren't arguing about whether it was Lithuanians, Poles, or Russians who were the biggest idiots.
They all had one thing in common. Their wives were Italian sisters who tried to keep them in line. I don't remember anything but loyalty to and respect for America.
I listened BBC news on car radio while driving to work. They kept going on how driver was dead, making sure to emphasize along the way that he was Polish, not Muslim. It sounded to someone who didn’t know any better as if he was the perpetrator. Only at the very end of the news story they added that the German police is looking for the perpetrator.
You should be.
No people should have a functional economy or governance after the devastation wrought by being subjugated by the Soviet Empire.
I’ve been fair impressed by the comprehensive and speedy recovery of Poland. That says something about the people involved.

Years ago (early 70s I think) I subscribed to a magazine named “Poland.” It was very large, printed on heavy paper. As I remember it celebrated the Polish people and their art.

The Poles deserve great respect for their military contributions to Western Civilization, such as:
- Jan Sobieski turning back the Ottoman invasion at the gates of Vienna.
- The Polish Intelligence, who captured the Nazi “Enigma” code machine, and got it to the British in the chaos of their Dunkirk evacuation.
- Their heroic sacrifices in the Battle of Monte Cassino in Italy.
- Their bravery in overthrowing Soviet-backed communist dictatorship.
- Their huge contribution to coalition forces in Iraq.

Poland is the only country I know of where neither of the 2 largest parties are leftist.
In fact, their socialist party was shut out of the most recent parliamentary election, they got under 8%.
Did you hear about the Polish submarine? It has a screen door. But don’t knock it, it keeps the fish out.
