I miss him already. Say what you like, President Barack Hussein Obama is supremely intelligent, witty, humane, reasonable, elegant, a great writer, a model father, a good husband, a decent human being. He has empathy and humor. He is sane and calm. He gave us eight years free of scandal and drama: no interns, no corruption, no jobs handed out to outrageously unqualified people (a hallmark of the George W. Bush years—remember "Heckuva job, Brownie"?). Although it's unfashionable these days to care about dignity and decorum—we're all vulgarians now, living inside a perpetual reality-TV show - Obama brought seriousness and purpose to an office that had been a kingdom of dimwittery and darkness for eight years. He acted as if knowing what you’re talking about actually mattered. And he did all this as a black man in white America, which went crazy whenever it remembered he was black - for example, when he spoke up mildly in support of a world-famous Harvard professor who was challenged for being in his own home by a local cop. Obama persisted, with grace, in the teeth of a Senate that treated him as so illegitimate that it even refused to hold hearings for his last Supreme Court nominee. To tell you the truth, I don't know how he could stand it.
Now that President Obama is preparing to step down, I’m wondering why we on the left - myself included - found it so easy to attack him for his failures and mistakes and so hard to give the man some basic credit.

It wasn't ill conceived, but it was just a delaying tactic.
The CHINESE wanted a 'return' on their loans to the US. They specifically did not want US MONEY. They would have taken gold, but there is no huge Federal Reserve of 'gold'.
So, what they NEEDED was SCRAP STEEL to make NEW CARS out of. The engines were filled with a glassy like glue that solidified and made the engine non-repairable. The vehicles were crushed, then loaded onto ships and sent to CHINA.
Recently, they demanded more 'return'. SO, it was decided to give them mineral access rights to 'certain' land. This included not only 'government' land, but some private land adjacent to the government land.
Ergo, the Bundys , the Hammonds, LaVoy Finicum, etc. were 'in the way'. You know the rest of the story.
They see what they want to see, and they want to see Obama as a perfect, God-like figure, regardless of what the facts show.
He looks a bit like OJ in that sequence.
Actually I want to defend one Brownie, aka Michael Brown of "heckuva job Brownie" fame.
After Katrina, the Alinskyite Left singled out Michael Brown (and President Bush) for vicious abuse. The real incompetents in Katrina, as most of us on FR know, were the useless mayor of New Orleans and the equally useless governor of LA at the time. Both Democrats.
Michael Brown and President Bush were smeared as "racist"and "incompetent" ... because they allegedly failed to pick up black residents marooned on their rooftops. Of course FEMA was not intended by law to be the agency of first response. FEMA was designed to come in and help citizens pick up the pieces after the immediate emergency had passed. But to hysterical MSM types like Shep Smith, that didn't matter.
