Well, I never got quite that close. My dad did have to have his hearing testing regularly. It always checked out fine, but my mother was skeptical.

Flew Hueys during the day in the 1972 Easter Offensive. At night watched F-4s take off in staggered threes. Their afterburners made the ground shake and with huge tails of fire. Thunderous sound from a mile away.
