Top GOP senators: Aleppo 'will be a testament to our moral failure and everlasting shame'

Republican Sens. John McCain and Lindsey Graham issued a blistering statement Tuesday condemning the US' failure to act to prevent the "slaughter" of hundreds of thousands of people in Syria.

"The words 'never again' ring hollow today with reports that Aleppo is falling to Assad regime forces," the senators wrote, amid reports that forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad were on the brink of fully recapturing the besieged city of Aleppo from opposition forces.

"For four long years, Aleppo has been at the center of the Assad regime's war on the Syrian people," the statement continued. "Together with its Russian and Iranian allies, the Assad regime has relentless targeted women and children, doctors and rescue workers, hospitals and bakeries, aid warehouses and humanitarian convoys.

Exactly. It is not up to America to expend blood and treasure to save everybody in the world. Look at what we got for George W. Bush's Somali adventure in the waning days of his administration.

What is it now? A quarter million fifth columnists unwilling and incapable to do anything positive for America in return for all they take.

$#*+, we would have been far better off importing displaced farmers from Zimbabwe where there was no call to intervene.

Aleppo is Syria’s problem.

It’s their nation, and they have a right to fend off an insurrection.

I am not confident Syria would be in better shape today if the insurrection had been successful.

Al Qaeda is not a U.S. ally, not matter what Obama, Clinton, and McCain think.

Every Muzzie that dies in Syria is one less Muzzie that the West has to face in a future war.

No, but the Top US Senators trying to play “Imperial Warlord” and working with Clinton to manufacture these adventures in nation building in Syria and Libya are badges of shame.

Aleppo is not our problem.

You're right. It was Gary Johnson's problem. :)

No, it’s not.
What is happening there is just a continuation of the ISLAMIC CIVIL WAR that has plagued the region for centuries, actually for over 1000 years.

We need no part of it. There is no “our side” in Islam.

There are a lot of videos on the net of the citizens of Aleppo chanting, singing and dancing in celebration of their deliverance from our moderates who have held them hostages as human shields.

Not actually true. We helped the Arabs when Iran was winning then helped Iran when the Arabs were winning. 8 years of making sure both sides were busy killing off each other instead of attacking us. Might be wise to reset our mid east strategy to the 1980s back to the “Over the horizon” position were were in before Bush 1 gutlessness in 1991 left us with boot permanently on the ground in the ME

Yet these senators never showed the slightest concern for the tens of thousands of Christians slaughtered by the rebels. No, they seem to think that fighting back against bloodthirsty, armed to the teeth rebels is “waging war against the Syrian people”.
