Contradicting settled science, Donald Trump says "nobody really knows" on climate change
CBS News ^ | December11, 2016 | Emily Schultheis

Donald Trump said again on Sunday that he is “open-minded” about climate change -- but also that “nobody really knows” the truth about the issue, which contradicts the fact that there is near-universal scientific agreement on the issue.

In an interview with “Fox News Sunday,” moderator Chris Wallace pointed out to Mr. Trump that in the space of a week he bothmet with former Vice President Al Gore and appointed Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt, a climate change denier who has opposed many environmental regulations, to head the Environmental Protection Agency. Where, Wallace asked, does Mr. Trump stands on climate change?

“I’m very open-minded. I’m still open-minded,” he said. “Nobody really knows.”

However, there is a near-universal scientific consensus that climate change is a real phenomenon -- despite continued opposition to the notion among primarily Republican politicians. NASA’s website on climate change, for example, notes that approximately 97 percent of publishing climate scientists agree that human activities are very likely responsible for rising temperatures.

There are a lot of scientists in other fields who mistakenly assume that the scientists in the field are doing honest science.

Yup. If you postulate a theory that you cannot prove, it remains theory. If you cannot replicate results of an experiment, you are not using the scientific method.

Were we to halve our emissions in the US, we would only account for +/- 6 weeks of the PRC’s.

This is like paying someone to ward off curses. People may as well call a 1-900 number.

Green outrage is growing that Congress tweeted a link to an article by James Delingpole, which details how global average land temperature has just crashed by 1C (1.8F).

Does the Climate in most places change? Yep.

Does it change in the same ways at all locations? Nope.

Is there CAGW caused by CO2 from humans? Nope.

“...but also that ‘nobody really knows’ the truth about the issue, which contradicts the fact that there is near-universal scientific agreement on the issue.”

Trump is disputing that the “universal” consensus is true.

But this clearly flies over the head of this reporter...

Try being a science student, collect data, and throw out the data that doesn’t support your hypothesis. Tell me what kind of grade you get. The data “smoothing” involved in AGW has removed all the science out of it.

“which contradicts the fact that there is near-universal scientific agreement on the issue.”

No there isn’t. Plus, science is not by “consensus.”

Have these people ever taken a science course?

Whether "climate change" is real or not is not really up for debate. The climate has always changed--it changed before humans walked the Earth, and will likely change long after we're here.

What's disputable--what should always be discussed in a debate--are two things: 1) have humans caused the climate to change due to their activities on this planet, and 2) if we have caused the climate to change, is it really possible for us to do anything to change it back?

A follow-up question to that is, what IS the ideal climate to which we're trying to change it back? More follow-ups might include, how are we measuring "climate change?" Will any proposed actions cause climate to change uniformly, across the entire globe?

None of those can be answered with any certainty. Anyone who says they can, or says "well, we have to do SOMETHING,,," is lying through their teeth.

Also, if we do try to change it back and go too far, what is the plan B for survival?
