According to reports, President-elect Donald Trump will tap Washington Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers to serve as United States Secretary of the Interior.
McMorris Rodgers currently represents Washington's 5th Congressional district. Before serving in the U.S. congress, McMorris Rodgers was a member of the Washington House of Representatives, serving as minority leader.
McMorris Rodgers is currently the highest ranking Republican woman in congress.

I understood that Trump plans to close some of these alphabet agencies down - hope he is picking administrators who realize their priorities will be to eliminate their own jobs;)
They have to call a Special Election, they only appoint Senators.
She is only 47. So she is a possible first Women President. A Cabinet position would look good on her resume.

A vacant House seat is always filled by a special election.
A governor can appoint a replacement US Senator to serve out the remainder of the term.

This feels like a “Niki Halley” type move. Niki to the UN, and Henry McMaster to the Governorship of South Carolina. In this case, maybe Marsha Blackburn to the House Leadership?

It will also look good on her bank account come pension time.

If Helen Chenoweth was still alive it would be justice for her to be Interior Secretary.
But absent that, it would have been a lot better for Palin to be her stand in.
