Okay, makes sense if you nurse the accelerator around town. You're only running on the mid 2bbl. Still, like I said, I get better mileage from my Edelbrock 4bb if I don't open the back jets than I got from just using the mid 2bbl on the Tri-power setup. Once I stomp it, I get more power out of the Edelbrock than the 3 dueces. I really wish I had the original Rochester 4bbl since I've tried to keep the Impala as stock as possible.
You wanna buy my 3 dueces, manifold, and air cleaner? Ha! I hear they're worth about $2 grand. Since they only fit a 348, I'll give you deal at $1 grand. Seriously. Don't have the inclination to go to swap meets. Maybe will try eBay.

Arizona? Did the homosexual couple invite John McCain to the wedding? I’m sure that would get him an extra 10 minutes air time on NBC Sunday morning!

"Not really they made a 1957 Golden Fury that I recall back in they day. I remember the first one I saw, before slicks, that was still squeaking the tires at the end of the quarter."
Checked out the 57 Golden Fury and largest cid was a 350 @ 305 hp. The one you saw at the drag strip was probably built out...bored and stroked. The stock 61 Impala was 409 @ 360 hp. I win...just kidding. However, I have read and heard that the Chevy 409 was the first American Muscle, not Ford or Mopar. Guess it's a matter of opinion and bias towards a favorite brand/year.

However, I have read and heard that the Chevy 409 was the first American Muscle, not Ford or Mopar. Guess it's a matter of opinion and bias towards a favorite brand/year. As I recall the Thunderbird was changed to a luxury car because they looked so bad against the new small block Chevy Corvette.
Small block Chevys dominated the strips in the mid/late 50's.
The 389 Tri-Power GTO was supposed to be a solid 300 hp as well but the 348 Chevy waxed mine anytime I challenged one on the road.
The Boss 429 Mustang is a high performance Ford Mustang variant that was offered by Ford in 1969 and 1970. Although Ford rated the car at only 375 horsepower, realistically the engine was pumping out closer to 600 horsepower. Details here.
