~ The FReeper Canteen Presents ~
~ Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941 ~
On Sunday, December 7th, 1941 the Japanese launched a surprise attack against the U.S. Forces stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. By planning his attack on a Sunday, the Japanese commander Admiral Nagumo, hoped to catch the entire fleet in port. As luck would have it, the Aircraft Carriers and one of the Battleships were not in port. (The USS Enterprise was returning from Wake Island, where it had just delivered some aircraft. The USS Lexington was ferrying aircraft to Midway, and the USS Saratoga and USS Colorado were undergoing repairs in the United States.) In spite of the latest intelligence reports about the missing aircraft carriers (his most important targets), Admiral Nagumo decided to continue the attack with his force of six carriers and 423 aircraft. At a range of 230 miles north of Oahu, he launched the first wave of a two-wave attack. Beginning at 0600 hours his first wave consisted of 183 fighters and torpedo bombers which struck at the fleet in Pearl Harbor and the airfields in Hickam, Kaneohe and Ewa. The second strike, launched at 0715 hours, consisted of 167 aircraft, which again struck at the same targets. At 0753 hours the first wave consisting of 40 Nakajima B5N2 "Kate" torpedo bombers, 51 Aichi D3A1 "Val" dive bombers, 50 high altitude bombers and 43 Zeros struck airfields and Pearl Harbor. Within the next hour, the second wave arrived and continued the attack. Information from here...LOTS of pictures

Yo radu!
It's cold here...I mean C-O-L-D cold. Into the teens tonight and then the snow is suppose to hit tomorrow.
I'm all ready, I'll wait until the morning traffic is done before I try to venture out. Not really planning on going anywhere but ya never know.
Howz things with you? Aunt Clara get her thermostat working?

Howdy, PRO!
We get your C-O-L-D cold here tomorrow and we sure aren’t looking forward to it. Highs in the 30s tomorrow and Fri. with lows in the teens. Might get a few flurries overnight but nothing will stick. Whew!
Be careful if you have to get out on the roads tomorrow! We don’t want you getting banged up!
I went by the nursing home before going to the grocery store this afternoon and Aunt Clara’s room was comfy warm. Score one for the Dragon Lady. LOL! No telling what would have happened if I hadn’t blown my stack yesterday. They didn’t seem in any hurry to do anything about it up to that point.
Now sitting here aching. The weather, scrubbing kitchen walls the other night, and lugging groceries are wreaking havoc on the ol’ bones. LOL

Good evening, Idaho...I went as a teen. Very sobering, and back then EVERYONE was respectful and mostly very quiet. I hope it is still so.
We must NEVER forget.

I think they must be. It’s some kind of KA antibiotic. I’ll probably leave here on Sunday unless something comes up. She likes to have a Saturday out day and I thought she’d enjoy one more before she’s left home with the girls 24/7.
I love them, but I’d be ready to climb the walls without a break! Just sayin..... LOL!

“This is NOT a drill!!”
Good evening, radu...such a shock.
I remember my Mom talking about having to have black out curtains and be very diligent about NO lights. They lived in Long Beach on the left coast.

Sounds like things are going well if you think you’ll be able to leave this weekend.
I hope the roads are in good shape when you head home. We’ll have rain here Sunday and I assume it’s the system that’s moving across CA now. Don’t know if it’ll be rain or snow when it crosses where you’ll be travelling. Keep a close eye on the weather reports!

That little piece of paper spoke volumes, didn’t it?
I’ve read and heard about people on the west coast having to use black out curtains and stay dark. Had to be scary times for everyone.
