Donald Trump Picks GOP Oil Industry Ally, Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt, to Lead EPA
NBC News ^ | Dec 7 2016, 3:34 pm ET | Emma Margolin

Donald Trump intends to select Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt to lead the Environmental Protection Agency, a senior transition official confirmed to NBC News Wednesday — the clearest sign yet the president-elect will pursue an agenda that could undue President Obama's climate change legacy.

An ally to the fossil fuel industry, Pruitt has aggressively fought against environmental regulations, becoming one of a number of attorneys general to craft a 28-state lawsuit against the Obama administration's rules to curb carbon emissions. The case is currently awaiting a decision from the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, which heard oral arguments in September.

Pruitt, who questions the impact of climate change, along with Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange, penned an op-ed in the Tulsa World earlier this year that called criticism they've received "un-American."

"Healthy debate is the lifeblood of American democracy, and global warming has inspired one of the major policy debates of our time," states the op-ed. "That debate is far from settled. Scientists continue to disagree about the degree and extent of global warming and its connection to the actions of mankind… Dissent is not a crime."

There are oil wells on the Capitol grounds here [im visiting my kids here] in Oklahoma!

I think Alfalfa Bill Murry planted turnips there during the depression.

oh man...roadkill to Gore’s visit with Ivanka & Trump this week...

I would've loved to eavesdrop on the post-meeting conversation between Donald and Ivanka. "Did you see the way that creep was looking at me, Dad?"

Compare with Dubya’s EPA chief Christine Whitman, who backed Hillary and compared Trump to hitler

That sounds like something Trump really needs to read before he begins dealing with getting rid of Common Core.

It really is complex and it must be studied before you can seriously guide any policy. God help us...

More drilling means more oil and prices going lower, means many drillers, especially the smaller ones will have to stop drilling because it costs more than they are earning. The majors will do exploratory drilling for future price increases which will then make it easier to make money with their reserved mothballed wells. The people Trump is putting in charge are in a position to direct laws that help the majors at the expense of small producers—or not. What do you think they will do??? The big boys in OPEC are finally forcing reduced production so they get paid more per barrel. Will a Trump government do the same, or follow policies that maintain cheap gasoline that most of his voters probably favor???

I’ve had this concept for a long time. It involves using up other nation’s resources and keeping ours for strategic reasons.

Resources like raw materials are something I think fit nicely into solid trade relations. As long as prices remain low, it seems to me it’s wiser to use oil that will be denied to China.

Do I want more oil jobs here? Yes..., but I understand why in the short term it may not happen.

I paid $2.25 a gallon towards the end of November. It’s the lowest price I’ve paid in many years.

These prices lower the cost of many of the goods we purchase.

I’m not knocking it.

I’m sure some in the oil industry are. I suspect it’s some of the same folks who get rally upset at the talk of tariffs, because that would drive costs to consumers higher.

Interesting times we live in.

I was on the Delmarva Peninsula Tuesday and paid $2.06 a gallon at the cheapest station I could find in Virginia. I to believe in conserving our strategic resources for our children and my grandchildren’s future. Here are two links showing the rapid growth in jobs in renewable and green energy jobs. It is surprising how fast other countries are growing in this sector.

I appreciate those links.

I’m somewhat jaded about the green energy jobs.

Hey, I’m very much for them if the projections pan out. In some instances they don’t.

My emphasis is on site specific systems. I want something that will make every home self-sufficient.

When it comes to energy and water, I like the idea folks aren’t over a barrel to Saudi Arabia, Houston, or the local city power and water provider.

I’m working in that direction myself. I’ve studied up on things and am becoming more knowledgeable about what it takes.

Where firms can retrofit and make their buildings more efficient, I’m all for it.

I’m not rabid about these things. I’m not a greenie by any stretch of the imagination. I do try to be prudent though, and if something make sense, I’m all for it.

Donald and Ivanka can meet with Algore, and give “Good Cop” lip service to Global Warming - while his appointees gut the EPA with chainsaws, and set the rubble on fire.

So Al, in your worst nightmare, who would be the EPA Administrator? Pruitt? Thanks for your input.
