House Republicans derail impeachment effort against IRS commissioner
The Washington Times ^ | December 6, 2016 | Stephen Dinan

Republican leaders managed to derail a measure to impeach IRS Commissioner John Koskinen on Tuesday, sending the debate back to a committee for more study, where it will die when the Congress adjourns at the end of this year.

Conservatives had pushed for impeaching Mr. Koskinen, saying he cannot be allowed to get away with having misled Congress on the investigation into the IRS’s tea party targeting.

But GOP leaders, eager to clean up business and shut down for the year, ahead of a busy 2017, led the push to shunt the impeachment aside. Joined by Democrats, the House voted 342-72 to send the debate back to the Judiciary Committee.

Too much time would be wasted on an impeachment.

Yes, justice just isn't worth going to the trouble and time, is it?

IF the House adjourns soon then all or most of Obama’s ‘midnight regulations’ can be easily nullified.
The impeachment could delay adjournment (or recess) because of proceduarl rules.
I hope that’s the RINOs concern here, though they’ve fought this for months anyway.

And, for the record...

The pubbie leadership was totally on board with IRS suppression of the despised Tea Party. That’s why the sleaze Koskinen was never held to account, he had bi-partisan support.

Lerner, the commissioner, Holder and Obama should have been i reached 3 years ago. Too late. Nothing will ever be done. This use of the iRS to stole political opponents in an election year is a 100 times worse than anything Nixon ever did.

It's not as if I don't notice the sarcasm, but let me answer anyway. We have to pick our battles. While this impeachment was going on, any other Congressional business would come to a halt. Even if the K. was impeached in the House, nothing would happen to him unless he was also convicted by a 2/3 majority in the Senate. So, it would be a show trial with no real possibility of effect.

And, I believe that Trump can just replace the guy after he is inaugurated. Or, if the appointment is for a fixed term, he can find plenty of reasons to request his resignation.

No, it’s all the more important to show the public that they get it and there is a new government about to happen.

They are idiots.

But GOP leaders, eager to clean up business and shut down for the year

Ah, well - much more important for "GOP leaders" to have a happy holiday than to do what people elected them to do and root out corruption in a federal agency which has been targeting and persecuting conservatives illegally. This is why voters have so much contempt for establishment politicians - and apparently the November election taught these people nothing.

Too much time would be wasted on an impeachment. He’s a political appointee, and Trump can and likely will toss him.

Not sufficient - the IRS has been used a tool for political vendettas and political partisanship. This is government corruption on a massive scale that needs the light of day in a public investigation, and impeachment would have accomplished that. Canning the IRS commissioner will not.

That’d work if they’d only prosecute.

We know Barack Hussein's minions will not prosecute. I would love to see President Trump's Justice Department stand up for justice on that issue, but even if they don't, there is always the future. I will do what I can (which is enough) to keep that potential in the minds of America's enemies, so they will never feel fully secure. Perhaps, eventually, the right person will be in office, and all those thugs will get what they deserve.

342 - 72: I’d say they know it’s a waste of time as he can be replaced by President Trump....
