Russia's increasing military activities around the world have unsettled top U.S. military officials, who say they are reshaping their budget plans to better address what they now consider to be the most pressing threat to U.S. security.

"Russia is the No. 1 threat to the United States. We have a number of threats that we're dealing with, but Russia could be, because of the nuclear aspect, an existential threat to the United States," Air Force Secretary Deborah James told Reuters in an interview at the annual Reagan National Defense Forum.

James, Chief of Naval Operations Admiral John Richardson and Pentagon chief arms buyer Frank Kendall, all voiced growing concern about Russia's increasingly aggressive behavior in interviews late on Saturday.

Their comments come as the Pentagon finalizes a classified security assessment for President-elect Donald Trump, who has promised to both pump up U.S. defense spending and build closer ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“Russia could be, because of the nuclear aspect,”

So do the experts fear a nuclear confrontation with Russia?

Right now both countries have threats from islam, sorry radical islam, {sigh}.

We have more in common with Russia right now then what we do with islam, or mahy parts of the world.

That’s the True Conservative(tm) comicbook version, anyway. Russia is our geopolitical competitor, regardless of what FReepers who stroke themselves when they hear Putin’s name say.

For what the military has to oppose. Russia and China would be the big military ‘threats’.

Islamic extremism is a threat to our nation and interests, and flexible anti-insurgency forces are needed as well - but that would not be the main military threat at this time.

Depends on how many countries Russia plans on occupying, I suppose.

I would rather have Russia as a security partner right now than Germany - at least until Germany comes to its senses and kicks Merkel and her ilk to the curb.

“”Russia is the No. 1 threat to the United States.” -— The number 1 & 2 threats are Islam & China, in no specific order. I expect to wake up one day to a sneak attack by China. They periodically threaten a nuclear strike, and they can do it. The Russia angle seems silly.

Sorry, but Russia is a threat. Trump will learn this first hand when Putin goes deeper into Ukraine, sells weapons to Iran, and helps the Chinese in their endenvors in the Eastern Pacific.

Russia and China are the greatest threats to the US. Radical Islam, while being a threat, only has a few nuclear weapons (In Shia Iran, which is not the main Islamic threat right now and is an ally to Russia and China), and they believe that Allah will make their bullets hit true.

It won’t be from Russia, how many items from Russia stock Walmart shelves? or are sold on Amazon? or are replica auto parts? TOYS?

We had a Pearl Harbor because we had an embargo with Japan, cut off their steel from us, we won’t have anything of the sort with Russia because we hardly import anything from them. And we really don’t sell much to them umless its western bling.

But you put the slightest kink in the offshore pipeline from China and they will react, but who knows, maybe it will spark a revolution and free them from Communism? That would be history on a grand scale, a non communist China!

Let’s hope they remember to make a few plans to counter the hate-filled and ultra-violent moslems.

Putin is the least of our worries.
