I’m sure you’re an expert on cattle; however, there have been no other reported cases of anthrax in Indiana, ever.
“Anthrax is found in dirt.”
Interesting. learn something new everyday. Well some days... Well on a rare occasion anyway.
One of the transmittal (vectors) of anthrax are insects used in a mechanical way, like carrion beetles. These are unlikely at this time of year.
The first signs of anthrax are dead animals. The best animal, in good flesh. They do NOT get sick and waste away. Usually it is the point cow, the first one out in a pasture that eats contaminated grass.
Was there a lot of rain in the area??? Was the farm near a waterway???
Was there any movement of earth, like a backhoe or bulldozer in the area moving dirt? If there was, then the rains came and washed some of the soil along grass stems, this animal ate that and then died?
The earth could have been contaminated by improper disposal of an anthrax infected animal from the 1800’s. That stuff lives forever.
Were there sheep in the area? They are more susceptible.
Not to fear!!! The folks in Arizona have all the known strains DNA-ed and we will know....or someone will know where it came from.
Marcia
Yes of course. This is no biggie.
The spores will be in the ground forever. All future cattle must be vaccinated for this now.
I remember an animal rights fanatic walking through a Hoof and Mouth disease infected barn in England. He then tried to board a plane to the USA with those same shoes on but was stopped.
It was believed he wanted to bring the disease to the USA.
Prices of live cattle and feeders have been about 1/2 of what they were a year and a half ago. This could drop them even lower. I hope not.
Now THAT would be a nightmare...
How did the daughter take it...? I burst out laughing at your post...I’m glad I wasn’t drinking coffee at the time!
She understands that
Well turnabout is fair play...I’m sure she’s ‘given it back” to him in many ways!
Thanks for ping.
