In the wake of Donald Trump winning the presidency after a campaign that often targeted and scapegoated immigrants, Latinos and Muslims, the AFT has pledged to take concrete action to assist these groups, with a particular emphasis on assisting and defending undocumented students. AFT President Randi Weingarten said AFT will "do everything in our power to stop any kind of action against our immigrant families, our Muslim families, our Latino families and especially our undocumented students."
Specifically, she said that the AFT will:
- Support cities such as Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and others as they reaffirm sanctuary status for immigrants and, in some cases, establish municipal ID programs to protect immigrants with no identification from being detained unnecessarily.
- Help members establish and maintain sanctuary status in schools, colleges and communities.
- Provide guidance and resources for teachers, staff and faculty to support and prepare undocumented students and their families for changes in immigration lawincluding basic "know your rights" advice on how to handle a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement raid and what to do if family members are detained.
- Provide lesson plans to address the social, emotional and mental health needs of all children and promote diversity and inclusion.
- Urge the government to reaffirm that children cannot be barred from enrolling in public schools based on their or their parents' immigration status.
- Participate in a national week of mobilization, education and action Jan. 914, spearheaded by United We Dream and other immigrant advocates, and in a day of action Jan. 19, organized with the Alliance to Reclaim Our Schools.

AMERICAN FEDERATION of TEACHERS.
(That Union should be dissolved) I must respectfully disagree. Just make all union membership voluntary. No one should be forced to join a union. No more "closed shop" states!
If that were to happen, the AFT would lose 2/3 of its membership.

Soviet style election. You vote for the candidates the union (party) selects. How very democratic of them.

Breaking the law is not in their mission statement. Perhaps their legitimacy should be questioned.
AFT Mission Statement. The American Federation of Teachers is a union of professionals that champions fairness; democracy; economic opportunity; and high-quality public education, healthcare and public services for our students, their families and our communities.

And the AFT can volunteer to teach illegals on their own time and with their own resources. See how that works out.

Former AFT head Albert Shanker is supposed to have said that he'd represent the interests of schoolchildren when school children started paying union dues.
In his futuristic comedy Sleeper Woody Allen had a character say that civilization came to an end when a man named Albert Shanker got his hands on a nuclear warhead.

AFT hates America. More specifically, the AFT leadership hates America. The leadership does NOT speak for the membership, as the leaders were not chosen by the membership. Please see my post #15.

What is the AFT
"When school children start paying union dues. That's when I'll start representing the interest of the school children."
Everything you need to know about the American Federation of teachers can be summed by above quote of their President Albert Shanker.

Changing how States control education by getting the Feds out of the business, step by step, will put the AFT where it belongs - in the unemployment line with the teachers who only have jobs because of the union....

Let these idiots pump themselves up on their own moral vanity steroids.
The fact is, nobody wants to deport Mexicans because they hate Mexicans. It’s about finally taking a stand on illegal immigration, which a majority of Americans support. Ditto for greatly limiting Muslim immigration.
If Trump does things that a majority of Americans approve of, and they’re happy with the end results, it will only serve to marginalize all the Left wing nutcases, who think that racism is the only motive for these policies.
The more the Left buys into their own propaganda, the less they’ll be taken seriously.

What is America's education rank in the world?
The U.S. ranks 14th in education.
6 January 2015 Mark 1 comment.
According to Pearson, the United States has a cognitive skills and educational attainment score of 0.39, which makes the United States rank fourteenth out of forty countries ranked in that category.
(education | Ranking America)(American Schools vs. the World: Expensive, Unequal, Bad at Math) The U.S. education system is mediocre compared to the rest of the world, according to an international ranking of OECD countries.
