Desperate families and friends of party-goers missing after huge Oakland warehouse blaze killed up

At least nine people died in a massive fire that destroyed a northern California warehouse that was an artist collective during an electronic music party early Saturday morning and officials said the building had no sprinkler system or working smoke detectors.

Fire Chief Teresa Deloche-Reed said that at least another 25 people are still unaccounted for after the deadly blaze started around 11:30pm in the 1300 block of 31st Avenue during an event advertised as 'Rave Cave' featuring musician Golden Donna's 100% Silk West Coast tour.

'We still have to do a more thorough search of the building and we don't know the potential number of other victims,' Deloche-Reed said.

'In my career of 30 years, I haven't experienced something of this magnitude.'

A superb example of inept liberal government run amok. In CA they spend vast amounts of time and taxpayers’ money assuring AA, persecuting Christians, protecting illegal aliens from the law, and making sure illegal aliens vote to steal the country from its real citizens. Unfortunately, they seem unable to spend a small bit of the taxpayers’ money enforcing really important laws that actually save lives, like fire codes that require sprinkler systems and smoke alarms.

Of course it was incredibly stupid to hold that kind of event in a building like that, but those kids did not deserve to die such a horrible death. Prayers for the families of the victims.

IIRC Jerry Brown lived in a converted warehouse when he was mayor of Oakland. Did he encourage other people to use old converted warehouse space for non warehouse purposes?

I don’t think that it’s just a problem in CA. Also, there is always a certain amount of corruption (payoffs) in that kind of job.

Brown, California’s former governor, helped write the Political Reform Act of 1974, a landmark government ethics initiative that bars officials from making decisions that could benefit them financially.

In February, the commission ruled that the law barred Brown from participating in downtown Oakland redevelopment projects because he co-owns a live-work compound and converted warehouse in the targeted area. The commission said it was “reasonably foreseeable” that the redevelopment could increase the value of the mayor’s property.

***...why the doors of public buildings always swing outward,***

I thought this was the reason.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babbs_Switch_fire

“In response to the fire, the state of Oklahoma passed the Fawks Bill, which increased fire safety requirements for schools. This law required that all schools to have a minimum of two doors, and all school doors were required to open outward.”

Also remember when you walk into a building or house and you see the stairs were constructed with pallets....that should give anyone a hint to...GET OUT!

When your enemy is making a blunder, get out of his way.

I will never have sympathy for the enemies of this country again, foreign or domestic.

Personally, I believe there are things more important than the concerns we face here in this life. Whatever their politics may have been, these were people with those who loved them, especially parents who are now heartbroken. Being happy somehow about this would make me feel like a ghoul.

To put it bluntly - if all of the regulations implemented by liberals over the last 40 years were followed to the letter, American small business would grind to a complete halt.

Which, I daresay, is the exact result the Marxists were aiming for - and remain disappointed that they have not yet achieved.

Well Fire Chief Theresa and the city should be sued by the families of the victims because it is the responsibility of the fire department and the city to ensure that the fire codes are adhered to, and if not to levy fines until the property owners are in compliance.

Thank you. I was at Sun Valley mall in Concord in 1985 when the plane crashed, I was literally 5 feet from the fire when it happened. That night I was 15 and I saw a woman burned so bad to almost the bone, all I remember is her eyes looking at me and in those eyes was a dying woman. I smell it sometimes at the airport with the fumes of the fuel, I smell it when chicken is barbecuing, it is a thing that never leaves you.
I don’t care who they were, prayers to them.
