China lodges diplomatic protest following Trump's phone call with President Tsai Ing-wen of Taiwan

China lodged a diplomatic protest on Saturday after President-elect Donald Trump spoke by phone with President Tsai Ing-wen of Taiwan, but blamed the self-ruled island Beijing claims as its own for the "petty" move.

The 10-minute telephone call with Taiwan's leadership was the first by a U.S. president-elect or president since President Jimmy Carter switched diplomatic recognition from Taiwan to China in 1979, acknowledging Taiwan as part of "one China".

China's Foreign Ministry said it had lodged "stern representations" with what it called the "relevant U.S. side", urging the careful handling of the Taiwan issue to avoid any unnecessary disturbances in ties.

"The one China principle is the political basis of the China-U.S. relationship," it said.

The wording implied the protest had gone to the Trump camp, but the ministry provided no explanation.

Speaking earlier, hours after Friday's telephone call, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi pointedly blamed Taiwan for the exchange, rather than Trump, a billionaire businessman with little foreign policy experience.

"This is just the Taiwan side engaging in a petty action, and cannot change the 'one China' structure already formed by the international community," Wang said at an academic forum in Beijing, China's Foreign Ministry quoted him as saying.

"I believe that it won't change the longstanding 'one China' policy of the United States government."

Did they drag our ambassador out into the street, burn, sodomize and beat him to death? Just asking.

Shitlibs triggered, ChiComs triggered, NorKos triggered. Excellent.

Now we know where a large part of the Dems money is coming from, those guys. And, half of it is counterfeit. That's probably what they sent to Iran. The other bulk of the money is coming from the Middle East, soaked in blood.

What does Taiwan want? The government that runs it and the people who live there? The America I know would believe they have the right to self-determination.

The biggest mistake,by far, that the civilized, industrial nations (US/Europe/Japan) made in the early 90’s was to fail to close their ports to Chinese made goods.Helping China to become an economic power was a very,*very* bad idea.

In all the liberal grinding and gashing of their teeth, they seem to forget Trump took a phone call, not made one...

Was he suppose to hang up on her...an international partner...?

Hows this work?
She called him.
Does she call his cell direct, go through a middle man?
Does his caller ID read “Pres Tiwan”?
Does he refuse to take the call ?

Just hows this play out with a Pres Elect ?

The “Subject of China” was papered over by Jimmy Carter so that they could kick the can down the road on a major sticking point with the PRC. It was a bad move then, and 40 years later it has metastasized. And Barak Obama did a similar thing with the Iranian ‘nuclear agreement’. Best thing for the US is for Trump to dump that deal ASAP before it becomes the next “One China” policy.

Taiwan is an example of what the Chinese people can do when given personal and economic freedom.A prosperous, stable, civilized country.Anyone who's been to Red China recently (as I have) knows that none of those adjectives can be used to describe the mainland.

Come talk to me when you abandon the highly provocative actions you took to create islands (with military equipment and landing strips) in the South China Sea.
