An Alabama inmate on Friday asked the U.S. Supreme Court to stay his upcoming execution to consider whether a judge should have been able to give him a death sentence when the jury recommended life imprisonment.
Ronald Bert Smith is scheduled to be executed by lethal injection next Thursday for the 1994 slaying of Huntsville convenience store clerk Casey Wilson. A jury recommended life imprisonment without parole by a 7-5 vote, but a judge sentenced Smith to death.

I believe many live on death row longer than their victims did in their life.

Just for grins-—How does a person determine a ‘good hooker’ from a ‘bad hooker’...
But I was on a jury where the guy was a real creep. We convicted him in a matter of 90 minutes of so. The prosecutor then told us that the creep had a massive juvenile record & a very busy adult record, also. The laws don’t let that be used in current incidents.
This was before Calif’s 3 strikes laws. That is even watered down with plea bargaining.

Interesting question. Really, how does a guy or gal “grade” a potential partner in the first place. Many of us just go on looks and sex appeal without letting the little things like moral attitudes, personality or venereal disease get in the way.
When I was in my 50’s, a few sweeties in their 20’s offered their services. I declined their offers due to the little things, such as being married and massive age differences. Looking back, I do not regret it at all.
