Sarah Palin calls Trump’s deal with Carrier ‘crony capitalism’

Former Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin, who is reportedly under consideration for a spot in President-elect Donald Trump’s administration, criticized Trump’s recent deal with Carrier to keep jobs in the United States.

Trump visited the Carrier plant in Indianapolis on Thursday and touted the deal during a speech after the visit in front of a Carrier banner.

Carrier will keep about 1,000 jobs in Indiana, instead of moving them to Mexico. In exchange, the state of Indiana is giving the company about $7 million in incentives. Vice president-elect Mike Pence in the current governor of Indiana.

“When government steps in arbitrarily with individual subsidies, favoring one business over others, it sets inconsistent, unfair, illogical precedent. Meanwhile, the invisible hand that best orchestrates a free people’s free enterprise system gets amputated,” Palin wrote in an op-ed published Friday by Young Conservatives.

“Then special interests creep in and manipulate markets. Republicans oppose this, remember? Instead we support competition on a level playing field, remember? Because we know special interest crony capitalism is one big fail.”

Palin, then the governor of Alaska, was on the 2008 Republican ticket with Arizona Senator John McCain. McCain and Palin lost to Barack Obama and Joe Biden. Palin was an early supporter of Trump, endorsing him in January of 2016.

Business doesn’t really even pay any corporate tax right now. Every bit of it is passed on to the consumer in the form of higher prices.

Anyone who criticizes Trump in this stage post election pre presidency is idiotic, bitter, senseless and automatically out of the running. Lifetime

“Unlike many here, I’ve never been much of a Palin fan. She seems to talk a good game and then quit at halftime.”

Perfect comment!

Sarah Palin calls Trump’s deal with Carrier ‘crony capitalism’

If so, isn't it better that it - at long last - benefit ordinary working people rather than enrich powerful politicians and businessmen as usual?

I love her for her belief system, but she is wrong on this issue and needs a time out, like we do with little kids...

Yes, Pence was the father of this deal. Trump was the midwife. Pence did what 49 other governors do or try to do. I generally don’t like these kind of deals because the tax revenue benefits rarely exceed the cost to the state of the subsidies or tax breaks. Plus, they create an incentive for every other company in the state to demand some similar concession. But my back-of-the-envelope calculations suggest to me that the Carrier deal might be a good one for the state.

Doesn’t Sarah have a new reality show to undertake?

Sarah, I don’t care what republicans oppose. They’ve been losers to way too long. We have to stop the bleeding NOW.

I can’t believe she said this crap. He probably talked them into staying because he promised to get the corporate tax lowered. We don’t need this from our own people. She needs to shut up and give him some time to show us what he will do. And then, if he’s doing something bad, its fair game for criticism.

I think that was the very first post, I have ever made, critical of Sarah Palin.

Ever.

Get with the program, Sarah.

It isn’t “crony capitalism”. Well depends on her specific definition of the term and context. It is though about government regulation, which can be said to be more ‘nationalistic’; some may call it a socialist approach. Anyhow, it is definitely not a “free market” approach.

Am not across the specifics of the deal. Lowering company (enterprise) tax to incentivize has been used before, elsewhere.

However, lowering taxes alone for an enterprise (company) actually means the company increases its profit margin, and is under no obligation to create jobs or retain jobs.

Unless keeping 1,000 jobs (FTEs) is specified in the deal. Even then the company can still reduce salaries and benefits to maintain or increase its labour costs, hence increase profit margin. Other factors at play too.

Certainly Gov. Pence and his legal counselors would not have approved anything that is illegal. Also, was Carrier planning to move the jobs before the inauguration? If so, that could well be the reason as I am sure he is planning to implement tax policy to keep US businesses here.

But Palin needs to shut up about this. Trump is advocating for American businesses.

IT IS ABOUT TIME, that someone is.

Absolutely agree.

This is how it looks to me. Unless Sarah knows something substantially different, she’s just wrong. Oh there’s a superficial similarity here, therefore there is a sameness. No, not when we dig.

That’s kind of why guys are better leaders in most cases. The women who do well, do well because they’re paying close attention to wise men.

I’m no longer star struck with Palin. Does she really think these type of comments are helping?

Donald Trump was worth waiting for, even though had McCain succeeded in beating out that fraud Obama, we’d probably have Sarah Palin as president now. She’d have been OK on some things. But Donald Trump seems to be on a mission authored by God. Even his mistakes prosper.

Sorry Sarah but you are not in sync with the new Trumpism America First industrial policy and goals. Gone are the “conservative” days of the the abstract jargon of sophisters, calculators, and economists. We tried that and look at the blight in the rust belt. TRUMPUS MAXIMUS AMERICANUS!
