Sarah Palin calls Trump’s deal with Carrier ‘crony capitalism’
The Sacramento Bee ^ | December 2nd, 2016 | By Brian Murphy

Former Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin, who is reportedly under consideration for a spot in President-elect Donald Trump’s administration, criticized Trump’s recent deal with Carrier to keep jobs in the United States.

Trump visited the Carrier plant in Indianapolis on Thursday and touted the deal during a speech after the visit in front of a Carrier banner.

Carrier will keep about 1,000 jobs in Indiana, instead of moving them to Mexico. In exchange, the state of Indiana is giving the company about $7 million in incentives. Vice president-elect Mike Pence in the current governor of Indiana.

“When government steps in arbitrarily with individual subsidies, favoring one business over others, it sets inconsistent, unfair, illogical precedent. Meanwhile, the invisible hand that best orchestrates a free people’s free enterprise system gets amputated,” Palin wrote in an op-ed published Friday by Young Conservatives.

“Then special interests creep in and manipulate markets. Republicans oppose this, remember? Instead we support competition on a level playing field, remember? Because we know special interest crony capitalism is one big fail.”

Palin, then the governor of Alaska, was on the 2008 Republican ticket with Arizona Senator John McCain. McCain and Palin lost to Barack Obama and Joe Biden. Palin was an early supporter of Trump, endorsing him in January of 2016.

Reading the hypocrite “Conservative” Free Republicans complaining that corporation was offered a deal stay in America is priceless. Next the will say cutting taxes is bad to keep companies from off shoring.

There is nothing conservative about <1% import tariff revenues and $800B trade deficits. That situation is the result of crony capitalism.

The new Republican party is reforming itself by returning to it’s historic protectionist roots. There is no room for free traders it the New Republican Party. You need to go elsewhere for political representation.

I love the hypocrisy when “Conservatives” complain about a corporation getting a tax cut and someone having to pay for it. Maybe CNN took over Free Republic?

The mess we are in now is the USA is de industrializing and turning socialist with the blessing of “Conservatives”. Seems Conservatism doesn’t really conserve anything except capital at the very top of the global food chain.

If that’s true, then why were any tax breaks given? These deals are, unfortunately, commonplace in almost every state and most of them (but maybe not this one) are bad for taxpayers.

You screamed your thoughts at the wrong FReeper, UMCRevMom@aol.com. I maintain no ping lists but would definitely honor your command to take you off one...if I did.

Don't think you thoughtfully read what SP wrote. Either that, or you did not comprehend what she wrote. When and if you ever do, you owe her an apology, shouted just as loud as you did your complaint.

If Carrier does receive special treatment, then she's exactly right.

Donald J. Trump ‏@realDonaldTrump · 5h5 hours ago The U.S. is going to substantialy reduce taxes and regulations on businesses, but any business that leaves our country for another country, fires its employees, builds a new factory or plant in the other country, and then thinks it will sell its product back into the U.S.without retribution or consequence, is WRONG! There will be a tax on our soon to be strong border of 35% for these companies wanting to sell their product, cars, A.C. units etc., back across the border. This tax will make leaving financially difficult, but these companies are able to move between all 50 states, with no tax or tariff being charged. Please be forewarned prior to making a very expensive mistake! THE UNITED STATES IS OPEN FOR BUSINESS-- TRUMPUS MAXIMUS AMERICANUS!

It ought to be done by evenhanded policy (if some corps in a given set of circumstances can get it, all should). And I think that’s actually where Trump is headed.

The devil could be in the details. The policy under which Carrier consented should apply to any other corp in its same circumstances, otherwise yes there are some very awkward questions to answer.

I have a hunch however... they will.
