Sen. John Barrasso, a Wyoming physician, gave an outline of the plan on the Senate floor this week, which he said has a goal of doing no harm.
"I want to make a couple of things clear. First of all, nobody is talking about taking people off of insurance without a replacement plan in place. We all understand that there needs to be a transition over time," Barrasso said.
"People have already been hurt too much when they lost their insurance and when their rates went up because of Obamacare and the mandates, and the government saying they know better than families across the country. So we'll be working to make the transition as smooth as possible for everyone," he continued.
The plan, he explained, will cut costs, expand health insurance, and allow people to choose their doctors. Additionally, it will include helping young adults and those with pre-existing conditions.
"We'll be talking about ideas, ways to protect people with pre-existing conditions, and letting young people stay on their parents' insurance," he said.
Barrasso Outlines the Future of Obamacare
Thank God. Obamacare has destroyed my affordable, good care and given it to someone else who didn’t work for it.
As long as we wean out the term “Obamacare”, I’m all for it. I don’t think anyone thought it would be an “instantaneous” change to the “A”CA anyway.
NO! Kill it fast and hard. Delineate a change point. I have one set of friends who’s rates double in January. I have many others losing their provider completely. This is in January! Moron physician/politicians think they know best. They almost never do.
And replace it with TrumpCare? ;)
Does Barrasso know it was is open enrollment for OCare right now?
I think young people should get their own plan, don’t you? They are supposed to be adults after they hit 18
The GOP is EXEMPT and created RomneyCARE/ObamaCARE.
They NEVER have wanted it removed.
THEY are EXEMPT.
One of the unintended consequences of Obamacare is that it helped insurance companies find just how high they can jack up the rates and cut the coverage before people will rebel and not be able to afford their product. They haven't found that yet. So long as the government is subsidizing premiums, be it under Obamacare or Pricecare or Trumpcare, there is no incentive for insurance companies to cut their rates by more than a token amount. My unfortunate prediction for you is that your costs aren't going to come down much, and will likely still continue to go up, unless Obamacare is repealed and not replaced by any government program.
Actually, I’d prefer the term “Free Market Solution”!
I don’t like it. They need to just rip-off the Band Aid and move on. They are trying to sucker Democrats into casting a tough vote before the 2018 midterms. That is being just too-cute by half.
The purpose of keeping young people on their parents’ plans is to reduce the average age of the insured people in the plan. It has nothing to do with giving these young people something they really need. This allows insurance companies to collect premiums for people who will rarely have any claims.
Most people like the up til 26 thing but that is about the only thing people like
Obamacare premiums in Nevada skyrocketed. If you’re over 30, you’re basically without insurance because it becomes a choice between food & paying your mortgage, or pay for the insurance and starve/foreclosure.
I’m paying cash for my prescriptions. I cannot afford to see my specialist, or any specialist or lab for that matter. We make too much money to go on Medicaid, not old enough for Medicare. I’m at my wit’s end with all this.
We used to be able to get short term medical insurance that would cover the basics, but prices for those plans skyrocketed as well plus you get the tax fines on top of it.
Yeah. “Wean” us off of it with another couple of years of 50% premium increases.
If it's a government program then how can it ever be a "free market solution"?
wow, thanks for that insight
Yes
Eliminating the individual mandate and the employer mandate fixes about 70% of the problem. Imposing all kinds of mandates on insurance companies eliminating lifetime caps and requiring them to cover various treatments fixes another 20% of the problem.
