Twitter Says It Would Consider Banning Donald Trump's Account
SFIST ^ | 30 Nov 2016

The president-elect of the United States is a notorious troll — a fact which his promise to ban Muslims from entering the country, threat to imprison and strip Americans of citizenship for exercising their First Amendment rights, and widespread insulting of people online all make clear. We now learn via Slate that the two technology platforms Donald Trump uses most prominently to spread his messages of hate and division, Twitter and Facebook, take a very different stance on how to respond to future instances of harassment by Trump. Namely, Twitter says it would consider suspending his account. Facebook, which CEO Mark Zuckerberg (mostly) denies contributed to Trump's victory by means of spreading fake news, not so much. The publication reached out to Twitter directly and inquired whether top government officials could ever lose access to their accounts for violating the site's rules. “The Twitter Rules prohibit violent threats, harassment, hateful conduct, and multiple account abuse, and we will take action on accounts violating those policies,” a spokesperson responded. When asked if those standards apply to Trump, who The Guardian reports will soon be given the handle @POTUS, the spokesperson replied in the affirmative. “The Twitter Rules apply to all accounts, including verified accounts.” Twitter has previously banned so-called "alt-right" a.k.a. white supremacist trolls. That the future president of this country could fall into that category reflects a sad state of affairs. And yet, according the company, Twitter Rules are Twitter Rules. If Trump violates them, his account could be sanctioned in some form or another. Facebook, for its part, says it has a slightly more nuanced view of things.

My Two Cents.

I think TWITTER and FACEBOOK should each give me $ .01 for every registered user they have, and I will investigate both websites and then deliver a conclusion on which one of them is correct.

“twitter must be figuring that bankruptcy is cool.”

They’re edging closer to the edge of bankruptcy and, when it comes, it could come suddenly. They’ve been shopping buyers and all potential buyers beat a hasty retreat once they get a closer look.

I thought Liberals were against Censorship.

Maybe Twitter can come up with a way to burn an American Flag on a Tweet.

A new company should form allowing messages about 256 characters and talk about politics, on all sides is welcome. Only banned topics are those that are illegal, like recruiting for terror.

With Trump’s as its first user it would do great.

Zuckerberg understands that Trump would just go to gab.ai, and that all his current twitter followers would go get a gab account.

Go for it, Twitter. You don’t have a monopoly on this work model anymore. Donald will (inadvertantly) become the Face of Gab. It will be huge!
They will explode in popularity and make Twitter into the new MySpace; one of those gigantic shopping malls where almost no one shops anymore.

Wait, isn’t Twitter a public accommodation like a cake bakery? Couldn’t they be sued for discrimination like the gays did to that christian baker?

He would put Trump Live on the internet. MSM is doomed. They have proven to be the arm of the losing party. Trump owns them, because we didn’t have instant global communications in the pockets of MILLIONS of owners eight years ago. Trump did an end run. Fireside chats coming back!

Freeper prayers work....We have a President Elect!! Rejoice!
