The NFLs narrative that the elections ruined their ratings took a substantial blow on Monday when the overnight numbers for NBCs Sunday Night Football became available.
Hint: they did not impress.
NBCs broadcast of the Chiefs vs. Broncos on SNF came in a staggering 27 points behind last years Week 12 SNF matchup featuring the Patriots and the Broncos. Sure, Patriots-Broncos makes for a more compelling watch than Chiefs-Broncos, but does not justify a thirty-point ratings difference.
Not to mention the fact that the presidential election ended three weeks ago, which makes pinning the NFLs woes on the quadrennial silly season all the more problematic.

Minorities, women and children hurt most!
Obama, get that pen ready to start the NFL bailout money pumps!
Great game, until Kubiak’s boneheaded move. But I can’t stand Mike Tirico. Where was Al Michaels? Did he retire?
Castronik? Guevaranik?
It’s not just Krapernick. It’s systemic discrimination against white players.
Agree.
As a long time Broncos season ticket holder I was irritated that the NFL moved the game, originally a afternoon game, up to a prime time Sunday evening slot. If you are a fan attending a game at Mile High, in late November, afternoon games are certainly preferable. My seats are on the east side of the field with the most sun exposure. Combine that with the fact it was a Sunday night game on the last day of the Thanksgiving weekend and that diminishes fan attendance enthusiasm even more ... not sure what the actual attendance was but I'm sure it was down. I sold my tickets last week.
Let’s have some out gay football players, disrespect the flag, and hand out arbitrary penalties to players, and watch the ratings go through the roof!
“GREAT Great game.”
It sure as hell was! !
Couldn’t care less if all commercial pro sports disappeared tomorrow. Only thing worse than the nfl is the nba.
I'm rapidly approaching that mindset. What most pushes me in that direction is continually seeing the refs make bad calls at critical times which benefit the teams that the NFL WANTS to win. It's looking more and more like pro wrestling.
The NFL supports anti american activities. They are permanently banned for that reason along with the fact that the product has gotten embarrassingly bad over the years. The NBA...even worse.
I can’t ‘stop watching the NBA’ because I have never watched the NBA.
Nor do I watch paint dry.
They know the problem. So do we and it isn’t going to change unless the NFL makes changes.
Too bad, so sad.
True.
I don’t believe that; before this ever happened people were complaining about how the game had morphed into constant commercials interspersed with a dozen or so minutes of touch football. Major League Baseball has tried to avoid instant replay because the potential of stretching out the game would be damaging.
Where’s that gif of him getting sacked by the Cuban refugee’s son? Can’t get enough of that...
FUNFL
There is now real talk in the NFL league offices about dropping the Thursday night games altogether. The other solution was suggested by ESPN Radio's Mike Greenberg: the teams playing the Thursday night games are coming off a bye.
For example...
Google apparently did not think it was worth their time to create a Memorial Day doodle honoring the brave men and women whove sacrificed their lives for our freedom.Google also chooses to ignore Christian holidays like Christmas. So they have a problem with G.I. Joe and Jesus? Imagine that.
But they have no problem making doodles for Earth Day or Charles Darwins birthday. (Hes the guy who thinks we came from monkeys.) Google did not comment but late yesterday the company added a tiny American flag and yellow ribbon to its page.
