I am okay with it. They need to pay up their share of the 20+ trillion debt first.

No no no. The unfunded obligations of the United States (i'm talking about medicare and social security among others) is closer to 100 trillion dollars. California had no small part in running up that debt.

I might accept the notion that they can simply take over the retirement accounts and other obligations for their own populace, but I would have to look at the numbers to see if this is equitable.

Other than that, I would greatly wish for that collection of kooks to be separated from my country.

Like other “third world” countries that rattle their Sabres regularly (i.e. N. Korea), californistan needs money.

Standing on the verge of bankruptcy, they figure the Feds will toss them a bone to keep then in the union (for the 55 Electorial, dem, votes, don’t you see).

With democrats, and RINOs, always follow the money.

“A major downside would be a big loss to the state if all the defense contractors move out and military bases are shut down.”

Both scenarios have been happening in California for years.

If they were to secede, it would be interesting to see what kind of Military they set up to protect their new country. Would the far left loons out there even allow California to have a military?

I have long said let the regions secede into separate nations. It wouldn't take long thereafter for the sane parts to reconquer the idiots, and put a stop to their nonsense.

Although they do have huge industries that produce jobs and a lot of wealth, their debt and social commitments will outstrip all benefits gained. Plus, it is not sustainable. The solution would be to raise taxes. Eventually, it would be too expensive to live in CA.

Also, in order to be environmentally friendly, they have restrictions on energy production at all levels. What people don’t realize is that they rely on surrounding states for their energy and so that they can appear to be friendly to the environment. If they were to secede they would have to change this policy and if they didn’t change, those industries and wealth would disappear and they would soon turn into an third world country.

Bottom line: environmentalism and economic prosperity are very often in conflict with each other.

The U.S. would be better served if it sold Kalifornia to Mexico, or traded it for their (Mexico) building and paying for a Southern and Western wall at the border.

Head's up...Jim & John Rob - get out now, while you can

If California secedes how will they pay for the water they’re currently taking from other states?

What we need is for the conservative counties to secede from California (Jefferson State). That might fix the problem.

I don’t like it when others don’t want Californians to move to their states. If your state was like CA, you’d leave too. We have to go somewhere; we can’t stay here, it is untenable. And the libs surrounding me don’t want to leave. It’s probably the best of us who see the writing on the wall and want to leave.

Mexicans and illegals from all over the world own California. The rest of the population is mostly communists Democrats. No freaking loss. The few real Constitutional Republicans are leaving or stuck here financially.

Some stupid bozo starts a “petition” for California to secede and people act like California actually is trying to secede. Yet, there is an actual movement to try to create a new state called Jefferson from Conservative counties in Northern California and nobody even talks about it. It’s the Left Media setting the parameters for any discussion. I don’t think we should be entertaining them like this.

Good point. CA’ers are doing it to my beloved AZ. Liberal NY’ers have done similarly to VT, NH and ME. Liberal DC’ers have done similarly to VA. It’s a friggin epidemic.

Their bustling harbors wouldn’t bustle any more, if they were only serving their own state; their naval and other military facilities would shrivel w/o the megabillions flowing from the federal center.
