Conway: Trump backers feel 'betrayed' by Romney consideration
CNN ^ | 11/27/2016 | Tom LoBianco

One of President-elect Donald Trump's top advisers said Sunday that his loyal supporters across the country feel "betrayed" that he is considering one of his most vicious critics, Mitt Romney, for secretary of state. "I'm all for party unity, but I'm not sure we have to pay for that with secretary of state position," Kellyanne Conway, Trump's campaign manager, told CNN's Dana Bash on "State of the Union." She added: "It's just breathtaking in scope and intensity the type of messages I've received from all over the country ... the number of people who feel betrayed to think that Gov. Romney would get the most prominent Cabinet post after he went so far out of his way to hurt Donald Trump."

Conway first opened a window on the infighting in Trump's transition over who should win the powerful role as the nation's top diplomat, when she tweeted on Thanksgiving about concerns with Romney. "Receiving deluge of social media & private comms re: Romney Some Trump loyalists warn against Romney as sec of state," she tweeted, including a link to a Politico story.

“Either she is expressing Trump’s own position or trying to influence it.”

Exactly. It would be cool to know which one. For some reason I get the feeling she is being the strong advisor he saw when he hired her and she’s influencing / helping him make the correct decision...NO mitt.

“In either case, I am delighted with her comments.”

Agreed. She is awesome.

There is tremendous pressure by the RINO’s to get their filthy paws on as many levers of power/influence within Trump’s admin as possible.

There will be countless attempts to stop him from draining the swamp. It started at least as early as Gov. Christi and his early hires that Pence had to undo.

AFAIK the State Dept. is among the most corrupt and in need of Yuge draining. Mitt would be a horrible SoS for that one reason alone. It needs an outside reformer who takes no prisoners.

Kellyanne saying this speaks volumes to what Donald is catching from his movement.

She wouldn’t be saying this unless Donald’s supporters need it to be heard nationally.

And Kellyanne will never quit and never be fired. She’s as smart and effective as they come. This portends Romney being denied SOS. That’s good news for us.

If Romney gets dissed, I think he will consider ways to get behind the recounts. He’s a snake.

I hope so. I don’t see him being loyal to Trump.

I’m hoping Trump is making Mittens dance on a string for him and at the right moment will dash his hope forever. Payback.

It is one thing to mend fences. However, M. Romney went too far over the line. Romney never went after B. Obama to that extent.

It doesn't really matter who Mr. Trump chooses. The next SofS will be nothing more than an errand boy going to our "allies" and "friends" and saying pay up for all the defense you've received for free.

There will be no muslim outreach programs and Afghanistan and Iraq can kiss our ass goodbye.

i was shocked by Romney’s attacks on Trump - however, to invite someone for consideration and then savage him in the press is not presidential and diminishes the office. it reminds me of when Rosie ambushed Tom Selleck. not a fan and find it ugly. make the damn decision, already.

Insightful thoughts—I’d guess you could well be right.

They’ve got to get through the electoral college.

As a regular viewer of The Apprentice, I know that Trump hates disloyalty. Romney is out there only to placate the MSM, he will never be chosen.

I think this was all Kabuki theater. Sure, ‘consider’ Romney, but why would you ever bring a backstabber into your cabinet?

Romney is The Snake, that will bite Trump. I can see Romney calling a press conference to denounce Trump, and say that he is resigning as Sec of State, causing a huge uproar and media firestorm.

You bet we feel betrayed...Mitt was the gentleman, the adult in the room...that is how he left most of us feeling. Then one dark and stormy night, the GOP Elites got him round the throat....I don't think it took much persuasion to turn him into a muck-rake, villifying Donald Trump in every detestable way he could...WHICH surprised all...the hidden Romney, a blasphemous, down right profane towards a man who, as far as we know never did him any harm....so contravene were Mitt's remarks that President Elect Trump should never reward Mitt for his vicious remarks by offering him a place in his cabinet....Mitt IMHO is soiled forever.

......unless this has to do with...."There's an old saying keep your friends close and your enemies closer."

Just posted on another thread:

I wonder if The Republican establishment is pushing Romney for SOS and so Trump interviewed him early in order for public opposition to have time to build so much that there’s no way Romney will be appointed.
