‘Sanctuary California’ Faces Bankruptcy if Trump Withholds Federal Funds
Breitbart ^ | 26 Nov 2016 | Chriss W. Street

Although Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti warned President-elect Trump that defunding Sanctuary Cities would cause “social, economic and security problems,” Sanctuary California could face bankruptcy if the Trump administration follows through on threats to pull billions in federal funding.

There are 300 “Sanctuary Cities” and counties around the United States that have policies in place blocking local law enforcement from complying with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainer requests for immigration holds.

An ICE detainer is a written request for a local jail or other law enforcement agency to detain an individual for an additional 48 hours (excluding weekends and holidays) after his or her release date, in order to provide ICE agents extra time to decide whether to take the individual into federal custody for removal purposes.

"Moody’s Global Credit Research fiscal stress-tests found that California was already the least prepared large state to weather the next recession. The credit rating service followed up in August with a warning to municipal bondholders that the plummeting financial condition of many California counties, cities, school districts and other agencies would soon result in large numbers of municipal bankruptcy filings."

Taxpayers from the rest of the country should not be forced to subsidize the illegal and irresponsible activity of California politicians.

Don't defund all of California. Just defund certain federal programs to politicians in sanctuary cities who egregiously violate the law and protect criminals.

But what's the down side?

San Francisco city council drew the red line saying they would remain a sanctuary city to the bloody end.
Time will tell.

Wow. By cracking down on all those Sanctuary Cities,Trump is risking losing all those California electoral votes in 2020.

Same thing in Illinois.

The Dems are about to get yet another lesson in Electoral Poker.

Don't defund all of California

No, not all of it. Just the wasted money. Who gets to choose which is the good spending and which is the bad? And does Jill Stein get to run a recount fundraiser if she does not like the decisions about good spending and bad spending?

Unfortunately, the article indicated that you can't defund so particularly. You need to defund the state block grant and insist the state make the mayor or whomever comply.

Of course, Trump could defund a certain percent and state that as his estimate of what San Fran should get, I suppose.

After one city is defunded, and the financial reality sinks in, watch the other 299 change their policies in rapid succession. Pick the worst offending city and make an example of it.

Let California secede. Tell them goodbye on the way out. Oh,and not another cent in federal retirements, social security, military retirement, nothing will be sent to California once they are gone. With that, see ya!

Trump will have to send in Feds to arrest these illegals since the local police won't do it.

Maybe put it in the damn union contracts..."thou shalt arrest known illegals harbored in any sanctuary city and notify and release them to ICE within 10 days."

Actually the 'funding' of sanctuary cites causes social, economic and security problems. Another 'swamp' that needs draining.

You are correct. But all this caterwauling by these idiots will be followed by political suicides once the people discover what the like of Garcetti and the rest have brought to them.

What can be done? It is easy. All of these federal subsidies and grants come with strings attached. Jut add the string of this;

1. Institue a string that every person arrested or detained for any reason must be entered into a fortified e-verify action.

2. Devoid of an immediate response validating their citizenship, are held until either can be verified.

3. At the moment that it is detected the person is in this country illegally, no permits, visas or even over stay, the local ICE office is on standby to go immediately to pick them up.

4. They are then transported to a federal detention facility for deportation processing once their status is proven to not be a mistake.

5. If the sanctuary cities will need to go through a quarterly quick audit of collected data and if their arrests or detentions exceed the number of e-verify inquiries. They lose all grants and subsidies immediately.

This way, they have no excuse other than to continue their whining while their actual citizens learn what their elected officials have done to them in their name.

Don’t care if they go bankrupt, raise their taxes, whatever. If a Governor or Mayor refuse to follow the laws of the country, they and the people who put them in office, need to pay a price. We are either a lawless country or a country that follows the rule of law.

Elections have consequences. How many times have the Democrats reminded us of that? Now the shoe is on the other foot.

They kick us when we’re down. Now its our turn.

“the article indicated that you can't defund so particularly. You need to defund the state block grant and insist the state make the mayor or whomever comply.”

Trump should defund state block grants but make up the difference through supplemental funding that goes directly to non sanctuary cities.

If the Democrats fight this then just defund the entire state and let the Democrats deal with it.

To do this requires a president with the courage to defy the media and the political elites.

Do defund CA. Make clear why. Give others reason to pressure the violators to comply. Give good men reason to stop doing nothing.

Police officers are not the problem.

The problem is the politicians who refuse to follow the law.
