Looking at broader history and spiritual factors, I question if Cuba would really be ready to “stay free” if we could somehow have spirited the entire Castroite party out of there.
There are more events on the face of the earth which need to take place before a liberated Cuba would be able to keep itself. Shoot, the USA has much recuperation to do before it could even PROP UP an artificially liberated Cuba.
I posit that tyrants that LOOK like tyrants are probably the best tyranny that can be had if one must be chastened by a tyranny. Nobody can quite completely forget forever that they are tyrants.
There was a PBS documentary about Cuba. Somehow they snuck their reporters over the wall (that keeps out the riff raff) and they talked to average, aka completely broke, Cubans.
They were enamored with how clever the Cubans are when it comes to car repair. They’ve managed to keep their old beaters working for 60 years. It takes a clever guy to pound a new water pump out of an old rusty frying pan. To the liberal Castro loving journalist it’s just wonderful. They never bothered to ask if the Cubans would rather be free and prosperous to buy a new car. NOPE. LIbs want to keep the “charm” of Cuba so they can feel good about themselves. In other words, keep Cubans broke and repressed for their own tourist and political paradise.
This is exactly how I became a conservative in AP 4th grade social studies.
We had workbooks that compared American, Russian Cossack and Australian Aboriginal lifestyles on an equal footing.
I said to myself you have got to be kidding me.
Brian Williams prefers to visit a peasant museum, rather than visit a free country. He’d like socialism here in the US so long as he keeps his privileged upper class status. And, he feels he deserves his privileges since he is smarter and more caring than the rest of us.
Because if anyone knows the minds of the average Cuban, it would be Brian Williams.
Cubans would rather get their news from the south side of a north bound Donkey than from Brian Williams

That describes my in-laws perfectly. They are retired, and have money to burn. They take endless delight in traveling the world and seeing backwards countries — “They’re living like it’s the 1950’s!! It’s wonderful!!”
They are planning a trip to Cuba and they expect it to be even more pleasing than their recent trip to Myanmar (wonderful place — aside from the poverty, dictatorship, child soldiers, and total lack of civil rights. Great food!!!)
They are perhaps the most brain dead Liberal people I know (they live in Connecticut, of course).
