The flood of “fake news” this election season got support from a sophisticated Russian propaganda campaign that created and spread misleading articles online with the goal of punishing Democrat Hillary Clinton, helping Republican Donald Trump and undermining faith in American democracy, say independent researchers who tracked the operation.
Russia’s increasingly sophisticated propaganda machinery — including thousands of botnets, teams of paid human “trolls,” and networks of websites and social-media accounts — echoed and amplified right-wing sites across the Internet as they portrayed Clinton as a criminal hiding potentially fatal health problems and preparing to hand control of the nation to a shadowy cabal of global financiers. The effort also sought to heighten the appearance of international tensions and promote fear of looming hostilities with nuclear-armed Russia.
Two teams of independent researchers found that the Russians exploited American-made technology platforms to attack U.S. democracy at a particularly vulnerable moment, as an insurgent candidate harnessed a wide range of grievances to claim the White House. The sophistication of the Russian tactics may complicate efforts by Facebook and Google to crack down on “fake news,” as they have vowed to do after widespread complaints about the problem.
There is no way to know whether the Russian campaign proved decisive in electing Trump, but researchers portray it as part of a broadly effective strategy of sowing distrust in U.S. democracy and its leaders. The tactics included penetrating the computers of election officials in several states and releasing troves of hacked emails that embarrassed Clinton in the final months of her campaign.

Here’s the actual conspiracy: The Kremlin has been trying to f*** with Americans and Europeans, including on Reddit via forums like this and accounts similar to yours, by pushing all kinds of ridiculous nonsense, from the California “secession movement” to “Pizzagate” to the KKK to the anti-vax movement to 9/11-”trutherism”. This guy is a bigger sore loser than the Algore 2000. I was watching a rerun of “Modern Family” the other day, where a group of gay men was having hysterics about the glitches during a gay wedding. The wedding planner (Nathan Lane!) says, “What a bunch of babies!” He needs to say that to the MSM.
In a sane and knowledgeable world, “fake news” was known, esp. in the 1980’s, as Soviet “Disinformatzia” (Disinformation).
All of a sudden, the leftist US MSM has discovered “fake news” as though it was something completely new.
If you read and tabulate articles in the Wash. Post since Trump won the election, that concern “fears” by liberals, illegal immigrants, academics, “religious” leaders, the “media”, and millenials in basements, you will see the greatest smear and disinformation campaign against Trump and conservatives/values that I’ve seen in 45 years in journalism.
And the amount of Marxism thrown in under various disguises and degrees of ignorance is soaring to new levels.
Just read the Letters to the Editor each day and you will see this degree of ignorance on grand display. From false stories about the internment of West Coast Japanese (only) during WW2 to Trump’s businesses and now “cronyism” (he’s still a private citizen until Jan. 20th), the level of hysteria, hysterical reporting, hysterical delusions, and downright insane writing is off the charts.
Sigmund Freud would have to go see a psychiatrist himself if he read the Post for a few weeks.

I assume the goal here is another attack on the First Amendment. Surely “fake news” is not protected by freedom of the press, just as weapons more modern than muskets are not covered by our God-given right to keep and bear arms, and “hate speech” is not included in freedom of speech. The totalitarian left disgusts me.

One of the problems with the left is that they consider themselves smarter than everyone else, when they are not. When something comes along that challenges that v delusion they become desperate for a reason to hold onto their self perceived superiority.
Emails were real and Hillary collapsing on video was real. They’re just upset it wasn’t covered up.

I thought the biggest revelelations from the WikiLeaks eamils is that:
1 The DNC is a criminal organization that scammed, lied, and criminally manipulated voters when both in and out of power.
2 Hillary Clinton's actions as Secretary of State were the most corrupt of any gov' official in American History. By lying and saying the Russians were behind the email WikiLeaks, the presstitutes ignored one of the biggest stories in US history.
Omission is fake news.
