'We don't need the FCC': A Trump advisor's proposal to dissolve America's telecom watchdog
LA Times ^ | 11/24/16 | Brian Fung

Posted on 11/24/2016 2:46:48 AM PST by markomalley

A top advisor to Donald Trump on tech policy matters proposed all but abolishing the nation's telecom regulator last month, foreshadowing possible moves by the president-elect to sharply reduce the Federal Communications Commission's role as a consumer protection watchdog.

In an Oct. 21 blog post, Mark Jamison, who on Monday was named one of two members of Trump's tech policy transition team, laid out his ideal vision for the government's role in telecommunications, concluding there is little need for the agency to exist.

"Most of the original motivations for having an FCC have gone away," Jamison wrote. "Telecommunications network providers and [Internet service providers] are rarely, if ever, monopolies."

The FCC declined to comment for this story, but its current leadership has disagreed strongly with that analysis. Its Democratic chairman, Tom Wheeler, has spoken of an Internet service "duopoly" in much of the country that limits competition. And he has compared telecommunications to the rail and telegraph networks of the 19th century, calling for new rules of the road as the Internet becomes the dominant communications platform of the 21st century.

Government agencies are all becoming politicized and weaponized against the American people, against freedom and against America the IRS, FCC, EPA, NASA , none were doing the stupid unconstitutional original reasons they were supposedly set up for. Billions of dollars annually are taken at the point of a gun to give billions yearly in budgets to these tyrannical agencies to further oppress us . Is that America, is that in the Constitution? .

Where in the Constitution is any of these monstrosities authorized? Go ahead name it. Maybe you should move to Venezuela, that's were your tolerance for these government agencies as in the FCC censoring the Internet, IRS oppressing conservatives and so on leads to. Read this FCC censorship of the Internet article and the Constitution and get a clue.

Yeah....whatever is a good response for losing an argument. I want the FCC hobbled as much as you but I don’t want the lack of some form of aegis. Otherwise your Wifi and Ethernet will go frizzy every time you run your microwave.

BTW, see TITLE 47 CFR, Part 15(b) for clarification. It’s an FCC controlled function.

RF deconfliction and control.

Government doesn't have to do it. Why not privatize RF spectrum, sell it, and allow private enterprise to solve the conflicts?

Presto, no more progressives telling us what we can or can't publish.

I am not for unconstitutional big government and nothing I’ve said backs your claim up. You are being very disingenuous in your accusations.

And who exactly 'sells' that and monitors that. You want Apple to do it? Samsung, Motorola or any of the others doing it?

I've said here, and never waivered from it, that CONTENT control is not the FCC's function.

And I’m telling you that once government has involvement in ANY communications systems, be it paper, smoke signals, semaphore telegraph, phones, or the internet, it will eventually try to tell you what you can or can’t communicate. History has proved that.

RF spectrum now belongs to the “public,” allegedly. So government on behalf of everyone, should sell it and have no more say in how it is used.

Unless you subscribe to the bullsqueeze theory that there is a right to universal service for phones, or the internet, or printing presses. Which is where this all started.

Where in the Constitution is the oppressive FCC authorized?

Or any of these monstrosities , the FEC,IRS,EPA etc?

Nowhere. They are unconstitutional

And they are all oppressing Americans with billions $ taken from us at the point of a gun .And many are becoming literally weaponized too with armed agents.

Abolish all of the them with the FCC first as that is the most dangerous as it is trying to censor the Internet

Repeal of BJ Clinton’s Telecommunications Act of 1996 would be a huge step in the right direction.

No matter who gets selected to head up HUD, I certainly hope there is a serious audit & punishment for the officials there.

The Inspector General assigned to HUD says they cannot account for over 47% of the entire budget at HUD, and most of that money was paid out in CASH.

HUD has a budget that isn’t just petty ash, either.

Geez....so by the Constitution, universally, you believe that ANY law passed by Congress and signed by the President is ‘unconstitutional?’ See the Communications Act of 1934 for reference.

You keep diverging away from the original statements I made and you get farther into trouble. And, again you are back again with the “censorship of the internet.” I never even remotely said or implied that censorship or political influence was a valid function, and you are just being obnoxious about it, frankly.

Well, actually, it seems that Ole Dan is still alive and kicking. I saw somewhere that he gave one of his politically insane speeches just the other day.

(I forget the details, and I’m certainly not gonna waste time looking them up.)

As for Kenneth, maybe he’s still around also. Who knows?

First of all your stupid laws for the FCC , IRS etc are unconstitutional.

2. These government agencies are not even following the stupid laws that supposedly unconstitutionally authorized them . These stupid laws didn't authorize Lois Lerner to oppress conservatives nor NASA to do Muslim outreach nor he FCC to censor the Internet. These agencies are becoming gestapos as in Lois Lerner, the FCC censoring the Internet etc. but you seem to be ok with that.

You are not for Constitutionally limited government .

What planet are you living on? have you been under a rock these 8 years? .I feel like I'm arguing with a pro government liberal.
