Trump letting Hillary off the hook is his biggest mistake yet
NY Post ^ | 11-22-16 | Michael Goodwin

At first blush, Donald Trump’s decision to swear off criminal investigations of Hillary Clinton didn’t look like a good idea.

At second blush, it looks like a terrible idea.

The decision, dribbled out in a TV report and then confirmed by aide Kellyanne Conway, is too momentous to come in bits and pieces and from anyone other than Trump directly. He made the pledge at a debate to appoint a special prosecutor, and it smacks of Washington-as-usual for the reversal to slither out the back door.

Yet instead of the president-elect personally explaining his big decision, the public got snippets of comments he made during an interview with the New York Times.

“I don’t want to hurt the Clintons, I really don’t,” the paper quoted him as saying. “She went through a lot and suffered greatly in many different ways.”

Asked whether he had ruled out a prosecution, he reportedly said, “It’s just not something that I feel very strongly about.”

Pursue is the operative word here. He is a smart man. He knows to pursue is to personally get involved. That is exactly what the media wants so they can say he is above the law and carrying out a personal vendetta against poor Hilary.

I think what Trump is doing is letting the FBI continue the investigation that is ongoing. Then letting law enforcement turn their conclusions over to the AG. The AG will stand up a Grand Jury to determine if an indictment is appropriate. (Let the people decide through a Grand Jury the way it is supposed to work.)

This is a smart strategy by Trump. His hands are clean of a personal vendetta charge like the dems do. Trump can then say the people have spoken through the Grand Jury process.

He may be “playing chess” again.

Exactly. There is ZERO to be gained by taking a hard line on Hillary right now. Trump did the same with Putin in the primary/general. It’s all hot air at this point and the pearl clutching brigade needs to take some deep breaths.

All Trump is saying is that he is not seeking prosecution of Hillary.

Exactly. It’s not all up to the president. There are much greater priorities for the president of the USA.

Additionally, it wouldn’t help much to “Make America Great Again.” We cannot spend all our time looking in the rear view mirror if we’re going to “Make America Great Again.”

But that is not how the various news outlets are portraying it.

And the various" news" organizations are all a bunch of deceivers who obfuscate everything.

Right wing dictatorships work for a while in suppressing leftist subversion, examples being Spain and Chile. However, when the strongman dies or retires, the leftists return like a stubborn weed that defies chemicals.

The best thing Trump can do for now is get the name CLINTON out of the news! Push them into oblivion....going after them will make them martyrs, just like impeaching Bill did!

Who's ready for another Parsing Presidency™?

Raise your hands.

I didn't think so.

Criminal acts are part of the Clinton mindset....

Even if Zero issues a pardon, the Clintons will most likely do something outrageously wrong after January 20th.

Then, throw the book at them.

He has also said many times that he wasn’t going to broadcast his plans before executing them. He was referring to war, but it could also apply to the Clintons.

People need to realize that had Trump not taken the stance that HE wasn’t going to pursue prosecution of Hillary, anything found against her would be rightfully tainted and dismissed as partisan. He would have wound up as the criminal in minds of the press and much of the public.

Now, if and when the FBI, NYPD, Congress, and or the DOJ find and prosecute the Clintons on matters related to the foundation or anything else, it will carry much greater weight.

Even a blanket pardon from Obama becomes more damaging to both since it will not be able to be effectively spun as being granted as being to protect her from an out of control fascist dictator as it would inevitably portrayed be otherwise.

Not to mention, this allows Trump to move forward with his agenda without the Clinton probe interfering. Let it proceed quietly in the background until the timing is right.

Very misleading headline. Trump said that prosecution was NOT off the table. What he did say was that HE wasn’t going to pursue prosecution.

Egggzakly!!! Kongress, once it relocates its spine will take Hitlery and company to the woodshed.

Most here know how the MSM manipulates, fabricates and propagandizes the news and yet they still fall for whatever sensational news story that comes along?

Sorry, but i suspect that only the very top tier in Trumps team are going to know exactly what is going on.
Its the same strategy as not forecasting your next move to the enemy.
In some instances perhaps only Trump knows what he has planned.
Or he gives false info to one person to see if they are loyal.
This is war after all. We didn’t want it but the left has left us no alternative.
Long live America!

Yup. Remember, "The Adults Are In Charge" when Bush's "team" was put togther, and where *that* led us?

How many bent over for THAT meme?

Suddenly many are accepting parsing of language of a guy whose strength was PLAIN TALK. Is Trump becoming...ANOTHER "POLITICIAN™"?

Nonsense! Trump is a GENIUS!, a political genius. He gains political capital and Hillary gets investigated then convicted by an INDEPENDENT Justice Department.

Plausible deniability.

All you have to do is WAIT.

Trump is playing a massive head-game with Obama and Hillary.

How can they shriek and moan about someone who says he doesn’t want to torment Hillary? How can Obama pardon Hillary when there’s no reason to pardon her? After all, she’s totally innocent!

Once Trump is in the WH, it’s not up to him, it’s up to his AG. Just as “rape and incest” are not a matter for the President.

I agree - and the fact of the matter is, the most likely area of prosecution will centre around the Clinton Foundation.

If there is evidence there, they will get their conviction.

This isn’t North Korea - there is a process, Trump doesnt get to decide who is a criminal and who is not.

The more he stays out of that picture, the better. Nothing can be gained from linking him in with the whole thing.
