Totally confused how he could backtrack on waterboarding after conversation with one general (supposedly). He said he knew more than some of the generals while running and had Flynn and plenty other generals who endorsed him. Why change after talking to one general?

Public statements vs. private internal actions when justified. He is quickly learning to follow his own advice about never telling the world exactly what your tactics are. Don’t worry about the public blather in front of the NYT.

Building trust with cigarettes and beer may work over the long term, but if you need information about an imminent attack it seems that torture works better. Of course my opinion is based on what I see on TV.
