California's secession: Could Christmas come early for the rest of us?
American Thinker ^ | November 23, 2016 | Ed Straker

"Should California become a free, sovereign, and independent country?"

The question could appear on a statewide ballot in 2018 if a group of secessionists has its way.

Marcus Evans, the vice president of Yes California, filed a proposed ballot measure with the Attorney General's Office on Monday that would appear on the November 2018 gubernatorial ballot.

If voters approve the measure, it would establish a special election in March 2019 to ask voters again if they want California to become an independent country, Yes California wrote in a ballot measure filing.

More than half of the registered voters in the state must participate in the special election and at least 55 percent must vote "yes" for the proposal to move forward, according to information submitted by the group. If voters approve the measure, "the governor shall carry and shepherd an application for the newly independent Republic of California to join the United Nations," they say.

Evans said the group filed the ballot proposal in response to an uptick in support in a deep-blue state following the election of Donald Trump.

You may think, what does it matter?  California can't unilaterally decide to withdraw from the Union.  But you forget, there are two legal standards: one for conservatives and one for liberals.  Conservatives are prosecuted if they choose to disregard laws or even regulations or court decisions on marriage being redefined to include same-sex couples, letting boys in girls' bathrooms, or voter ID nullification.  But liberals are held to a very different standard.  They create sanctuary cities in defiance of federal law without consequence.  They legalize narcotics, first timidly for "medical" use, then boldly for "recreational" use, despite prohibitions in federal law, and have suffered no penalty for it.

And what a gift it would be for the rest of the country! California currently has 55 electoral votes. Candidates need 270 to become president. Without California, Democrats would have to swing states deep in Republican territory. California has 53 congressmen, 39 of whom are liberals (40 if you count Kevin McCarthy). In a House of Representatives with 382 members, can you imagine the difficulty liberals would have getting a majority if they had to climb out of a net deficit of 39 members? That would make the departure of the two Democratic senators merely icing on the cake!

And there are more bonuses! A must read.

Ironic, isn’t it? The liberals are going full-circle and now INSISTING on a reduced role for the Federal government, asserting more control at the State and local level.

Yes. We could follow precedent, invade California and subjugate it, then impose a Constitutional Amendment or Article V convention to politically neuter it for a decade...

The future looks bright indeed!

“They legalize narcotics, first timidly for “medical” use, then boldly for “recreational” use, despite prohibitions in federal law, and have suffered no penalty for it.”

Actually, the legislation could not have passed without ‘conservative’ votes.

Not one drop of assistance, whether financial or otherwise. When the Mexicans retake half of California and run it into the ground like they have their own nation and want the residents to fund freebies for them like they do here in the states, any sane persons left there will understand they've been leeching the system for a long time. Let them be slaves for awhile. It might put some hair on their chest and rid the libtard thoughts that flow their drug-induced minds...

P.S. doesn't apply to all Californians. You know who I'm talking about...;)

California should be somehow forced to return to American form ... USA American form

Trump could bankroll some uber Conservatives that could/would win office and begin the turn around.

“Independent California” would be a very small place — only a few counties are Blue.

And I don’t think those counties are economically viable on their own.

Hmmmm..all welfare funding, budget busting, soft on crime, pro illegals, federal regulations, etc etc could not have been implemented without Repubicrap support.

That will not change.

Oh, that would be a great gift to the rest of the nation, they can take the 2 states above it with them, LIBTARD, GREEN IDIOT havens. Ship all the LBGT and welfare queens there. Let it go totally bankrupt when all businesses move out from over taxation.

Marcus Evans, VP of Yes California’s FB page indicates he’s a University of Southern California graduate; another “university” agitator. Seems all of the agitators I’ve run across are former university students. I keep running across this everywhere. All of the protesters are except for the special teams they bring in who are lower IQ “muscle” that they know will actually tump the cars over and beat up people. I think they choose people with prior records with violence for that or it sure seems that way. They have different classes it seems which would be in keeping with their World of Warcraft / Skyrim gaming mindset...:)

Let CA go if they pay back all of their federal grants, support dollars for welfare, keep the ports run by the port authorities, keep the military bases, and so goes the list. If not, then they are asking for another crushing defeat.

Only if they agree to accept being a British colony, subject to the queens or Kings order.

See, even though there is marker there of the land and all in it claimed for England, it was never disavowed by the Parliament or the Royals.

Secede from us, and they can get accustomed to the Union-Jack Flag and singing Hail Britannia.

Those moronic liberals could vote for it but there is no way they can make it happen. More liberal snowflake delusion.

This a perfect issue for conservatives to jump on. Petitions in 49 states should be started to force California to leave the Union and pressure applied to the Congress.

This would continue to highlight the disaster of progressivism, and the difference between the us and them.

The benefits of such a removal could be advertised over and over.

When the Mexicans retake half of California

They are already 48% of the population here.

The Speaker of the State Assembly is an ordinary Mexican thug named Tony Rendon.

The California State Senate President is another thug from Tijuana named Kevin DeLeon. He says he was born in San Diego but nobody believes it; his mother was a Mexican citizen who commuted to San Diego.

These are the "Americans"? They have a right to rule the land our families fought and died for?

Google these names and take a look at them. Ask yourself: would anyone in their right mind equate these sinister creeps with the men who fought the World Wars and secured the peace for all of humanity?

Or are they just criminal opportunists trying to seize control from a weak and debilitated American populace?

I see the Calexit movement as a bitchy woman who used to be smoking hot who is issuing ultimatums or she’s “gonna walk out that door and never come back and THEN you’ll be sorry.”

I see the rest of America as that man who just wishes she’d stop talking and go.

Open borders to Mexicans, don’t assimilate them, let them live in barrios and sanctuary cities, support their claims on California being stolen from Mexico. Eventually wonder why they took over and want to have it back.Duh.

Checking the guy’s Facebook page he has tons of media contacts that are all former university students as well. Looks just like the protester’s profiles. And looks like the “secession” may have been in the works since last year. There are definitely some interesting persons from other activist / advocacy groups that have a Soros type of ring to them. Makes you wonder.
