Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, a high-profile Bernie Sanders supporter during the Democratic primaries, is “under serious consideration” for various Cabinet positions in President-elect Donald Trump's administration, according to a senior official on the transition team.
According to the official, the 35-year-old Hawaii congresswoman is being looked as a candidate for secretary of state, secretary of defense or United Nations ambassador. If selected, Gabbard will be the first woman as well as the youngest pick for Trump's Cabinet.
She met with him this morning in his New York City offices at Trump Tower. The Trump transition source said that their sit-down was a “terrific meeting” and that the Trump team sees her as very impressive.
Gabbard, a progressive Democrat, has bucked her party in Congress and during the contentious Democratic primaries.
In February she left her position as vice chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee to support Sanders.
In the House she has broken with Democrats on the Syrian civil war (she supports keeping President Bashar al-Assad in power) and Syrian refugees (she voted for a GOP bill last year to conduct stricter background checks on refugees).
This afternoon she released a long statement on her meeting with Trump, saying he asked to meet with her about "our current policies regarding Syria, our fight against terrorist groups like al-Qaeda and ISIS, as well as other foreign policy challenges we face.”

UN Rep would work nicely though.
And it would set up a high profile alterno-Dem with an instant in on the other sides farm team. A reasonably friendly one.

As long as she doesn’t hate America or hate Jews, I’m okay with her for UN ambassador. I’m pickier on SecState and SecDef.
She’s only 35, so not likely a cabinet secretary, unless DJT creates a new Secretary of quasi-Hotness position. The first female, Samoan, Hindu, Army MP, major/O-4 ‘RAT in history.
She is on the Foreign Affairs and Armed Services committees, previously on Homeland Security, volunteered to serve in Iraq, an expert surfer who often surfs at dawn when she is in Hawaii, a very impressive woman. Loves the USA.
Trump is simply looking for the best people.

Last year, she was interviewed on one of the Sunday AM shows. She’s really impressive.
what choice did she have Hillary or Sanders. or leaving the party. I am sure that a republican from Hawaii in public office is a rare and In wonder if she is DINO.

Agree. Too young, plus must know a ton about strategy, personnel, training, readiness, acquisition, and budgeting. Even General Mattis, superb Teufel Hunden & warrior that he is, may not measure up in that regard.

I don’t remember the name, but I was very impressed with the veteran who spoke at the Trump rally to support the troops that he put on against one of the primary debates. I was hoping that guy would end up in charge of the VA.
So far she is person number 147 under “serious consideration” for fewer than 20 cabinet level positions.
