Anti-Trump secessionists filed formal paperwork Monday launching their petition drive aimed at separating California from the union by first putting the issue before voters on the 2018 ballot.

A petition submitted by the Yes California Independence Campaign calls for repealing language in the state constitution that describes California as an “inseparable part” of the nation and holding a vote on independence on March 13, 2019.

You assume that unionists, such as myself, would fight or advocate fighting to keep Cali in the union? Wrong. Too much of a southerner to do that.

If push comes to shove, I would reluctantly advocate accepting the divorce. However, there is nothing that says that such a divorce must be granted on favorable terms to the divorcee. And we should remember that on a county by county basis, most of the rural area is presumably unionist. What of their rights to self determination?

That is for Californians to work out. Not us.

But I honestly don’t think any republicans or independents would fight to the death to keep them in the union.

Yeah, except for the Republicans and other conservatives who live in California and comprise roughly 48% of the voting population. But other than that, no.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing this secession pushed all the way to the finish line. The super-secret surprise that the lefties will get is when NorCal secedes from California proper and becomes the state of Jefferson, then re-joins the union as a completely red state. Win-win! After the rest of California collapses under the weight of the Mexican invasion and the sheer stupidity of the pink-haired, nose-ring crowd, we'll have to invade. Then we might as well just keep pushing straight into Mexico, wipe out the cartels, and free the Mexican people from their oligarchical/narco oppression. win-win-win!

Since when do conservatives support letting a bunch of Mexicans come in to squat in one of our states and then steal it to potentially become part of Mexico?

Let them try to secede, send in the planes and tanks, and take back the land with a lot less agitators living on it.

When Texas taked about succession because of Obama’s policies we were told it is illegal. So the law does not apply to liberals? Why am I asking, of course it don’t.

You don’t know your ass from a hole in the ground.

The cost benefit analysis backs California being in the Union. There’s no way around that fact.

It takes the next four states West of the Mississippi to match California’s GDP.

It takes 18 of the least GDP states to match it’s GDP.

Who do you think generates and helps pay for the poorer states West of the Mississippi?

Since when do conservative on FREE REPUBLIC deny any state a referendum on staying in or leaving the UNION? If I were Trump I would demand every state put up a referendum on staying in the Union. If a state wants to go then get the ball rolling. WE ARE A DIVIDED NATION AND ELECTIONS WILL NOT EVER CHANGE THAT FACT! Deal with it.

That’s the only thing you’ve had going for you since the start of this conversation, name calling.

You haven’t supplied one solid fact to back up your childishness.

If the Unionists start something in the face of a CA secession I will have to go to CA and fight for them on general principles.

A better thing to do would be to join up with the NorCal militia and fight for secession from the rest of California. You get to fight for secession AND shoot left-wingers. Win-win!

Here’s a fact. As a non Californian if the state legislature passes an ordinance of secession and Governor Moon Beam signs it then I will recognize CA an independent country. They would have my blessing. That is fact. To do otherwise would make me a fascist.
