Correction: On Jan 20, 2001 Bush43 took the oath of office to uphold and defend the Constitution; not that he won that day.
Now looking ahead to 2018 it is very possible that the GOP could lose a majority of the governorships and state legislatures throughout the country. Furthermore, there is the possibility of them losing the US House. Why? Because it all depends on how well the economy does, how well Trump does for America, and how well the Soros Side does. Those of you who may say “nothing to worry about” are either naive or you sincerely believe that George Soros (and his swamp spreading comrades) will be nice guys and put America first.
We need to add more conservatives in the 2018 elections.
What happens in the next year will determine if we are excited enough to reward Republicans with more seat, or if we are disappointed and don’t.
I want national election reform with voter id to be in the priority list.
W had both houses for a period. I have read, though, that it is the first time since 1928 a president started his first term with both houses. That is probably what they meant.
Amen to that. With Obama encouraging Illegal Aliens to vote (for the Democrats of coures) and the evidence of heavy voter fraud and dead voters voting, it's about time.
Technically the current alignment exceeds that since the Republicans now have an outright majority.
The House of Representatives.
Hey Mr Crank-pants... If you had said “You must have read it wrong- I did not say I voted for Obama, I was talking about being embarrassed by voting for Bush twice”
But if you’d like to continue arguing... it must be miserable to be around you. I’ve had these types of discussions with you before.
Don’t bother to clarify, just jump in with pissy-ass replies. Ok,... go have a miserable day.
82nd Congress: Joseph Martin (Republican-MA) was Speaker. House Majority Leader was Charles Halleck (Republican-IN).
I’m trying to look this stuff up and obviously doing a bad job! If I’m reading it right, Einsenhower came into office in January of 1953 along with the 83rd Congress, which indeed was all Republican. So the current situation of a new Republican President with a Republican Congress has happened in the wake of the elections in 1928, 1952, and 2016.
I think.
Let’s hope that he hangs around Washington DC hosing up his ideological comrades electoral chances. He’s done a great job on that so far.
Doh!
My fault. *83rd* Congress, elected in ‘52, convened in ‘53, had a Republican House and Senate with the new Republican President. That lasted on term.
Not quite. There was a 50-50 tie in the Senate after the 2000 election but the Vermont Senator, Jim Jeffords, defected from (R) to (I) and caucused with the Dems. Four years later the GOP finally won the Senate outright. But 20 months later they lost the House. So W dud not have a majority for very long.
GW Bush had the WH and both houses of congress after his first eklection. About 18 months in, tom dasshole bought control of the senate from jumping jim jeffords but the electorate gave it right back. We held the congress, both houses, until jan 2007 when dim-0s took over both houses.
At the time, unemployment was mid 4%,WITH a 66% participation rate. GDP growth was also mid 4%. By the next election, we were in this depression.
After Eisenhower's first election, the Republicans controlled the Senate (48-47-1) and the House...for two years.
You’re right. There was a window during W’s administration where the Republicans had both houses and the Presidency.
Naturally, yuge opportunities for correcting a lot of wrongs were squandered.
I remember when that happened. I shook my head in disbelief and asked the ceiling, “What is the point???” Dems were so tickled and went back to their old ways before the week was out. And they had all sorts of power they never earned. Thanks, Dubya!
Maybe some people with an ‘R’ after their name was the only thing Republican about them?
Because W didn’t. It was a 50-50 split in 2000 and the GOP “Shared power” with the Dems in the US Senate to “get along”.
This is the 1st time a Republican won election and brought in a GOP House and Senate Majority with him since 1928.
Yeah, they did have it for about 4 years. The person writing the article must’ve forgotten that! They would’ve had it for a few years more, if Sen. Jeffords hadn’t decided to go rouge and join the Democrats!
