If I were Trump, I wouldn’t trust Romney for a split second. Hopefully, this meeting was just for show. Romney WAS the candidate the last time around, and said some truly awful (and untrue) things trying to derail Trump’s campaign - this show of solidarity surely can’t hurt Trump. There’s plenty of GOP-e slime out there he still has to deal with, and it looks good to the public in a more general sense as well. If the worst he had to do for this is shake Romney’s hand, I guess I’m glad he did it.

As SoS, the possibilities to sabotage Trump are too great. And the position is historically used as a step-stone to the presidency.

Agree with your statement.

.... And the position is historically used as a step-stone to the presidency.

Well, not since James Buchanan in the mid-nineteenth century.

Trump should make Romney kiss his feet and then say “You’re Fired!”

I would not trust Mitt as far as I could throw the moon. Unless Donald wants his back filled with knives, he needs to give these Establishment Republicans a wide berth.

But I trust Donald to know what he is doing.

Point well taken. Maybe the word “traditional” is too strong. But Hillary Clinton just tried it in the 21st Century. Haig tried it in the 80’s. Blaine tried it in the late 19th century. The fact of not being elected doesn’t change the point.

I’m just concerned about giving Romney any leg to stand on.

And Trump bringing them into the fold.
Can you imagine Hillary forgiving opponents.
Her idea of burying the hatchet is into the back of naysayers.

Shows me something.

I believe that [Bringing them back into the fold] is a decision that he[ Donald] will live to regret. But it is his decision and his regret. Perhaps he believes that he can convert them. Experience has taught me that a leopard cannot change its spots.

It does not seem like too many SoS have gone on to the presidency from what I recall. And many times they aren’t always on the same page as the president... one risk that a SoS Romney might present.
