UNITED NATIONS In the genteel, carpeted halls of the United Nations headquarters, a 20-minute walk from Trump Tower, diplomats from the world over are holding their breath about the American president-elect.
The optimists among them are expressing relief that Donald J. Trump said nothing during the campaign about dismantling the United Nations altogether or turning its iconic tower facing the East River into condos.
Those who represent the United States closest allies are trying to learn who Mr. Trump will appoint to crucial foreign policy jobs and how he will actually approach the pressing crises that are sure to come up before the Security Council: Syria, Ukraine, North Korea and the widening chasm between the Israelis and the Palestinians. Not least, many are trying to persuade his transition team to respect the international deals the United States has accepted under the auspices of the United Nations.
Its important to reaffirm that, more than ever, we need an America thats committed to world affairs, said the ambassador from France, François Delattre, who noted, without elaborating, that he had met with members of the Trump team.

Though the US Departments of State and Commerce run a close second.
It really is time for the US to withdraw from the UN. They can decide for themselves whether they want to relocate.
The UN is the definition of globalism and Trump ran against globalism. yeah I’d say they’re probably going to crash a little, New York Times. Thanks for the insight how brilliant.
“Get the UN out of the US and get the US out of the UN”!!!
The UN cannot point to a single positive accomplishment since it was founded.
What is HAS done is serve as a mouthpiece to bash the US and Israel and to make minor despots rich beyond the dreams of avarice.
The building is too old to go condo. Blow it up and install a parking lot.
If they hold their breath long enough, the problem will solve itself.
If they don’t like it, I’d be willing to help pack their bags for them. Don’t let the door smack you in the backside on the way out.
By SOMINI SENGUPTA and RICK GLADSTONE.
The New York Times.
Sure sounds like a gang of UN-loving idjits.
I hope NY will not drown in leftists tears!
The U.N. has been worthless since PM Kruschef took his shoe and pounded it on a U.N. table.
The UN is mostly worried about losing American DOLLARS!!!!
Let’s hope so. The United States needs to be defended from these globalist meddlers.
Like always, they want us to pay for everything.
The UN is part of the axis of evil. They’re globalists. Get out of it and charge them mega dollars to use the facilities.
Good. The U.N.’s vision of World Government is not America and illegal in the U.S. because it is utterly unconstitutional.
The World Government Beast with all its Islamic death and destruction, is coming, but not yet. Probably sometime in the second half of this century, ending in the death of the almost the whole world just before Jesus returns with His saints to establish another World Government, one that is established for 1000 years in righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. What a wonderful day that will be.
I recall from an early rally Trump did say he was going to look into the UN, implying it was unessesary. I Very definitely remember this.
Every time the UN bashes the US reduce the annual allocation by $1,000,000,000. Problem solved in three years. World is a safer place. Time to play hardball.
“Blow it up and install a parking lot.”
I agree. Pave their “paradise” and put up a parking lot.
America is a sovereign nation. Real Americans don’t like commies. The UN has got to go. It has outlived it’s cold war usefulness and is now an enemy of America and freedom.
I wonder who owns the lease on the building?
