WASHINGTON — The congressional district seat reportedly being targeted for a run by Chelsea Clinton may not be vacant any time soon.
The New York Post reported last week that Democratic operatives within the Empire State are quietly grooming Chelsea to run in the Westchester seat currently occupied by longtime Democratic Congresswoman Nita Lowey.
“There has been a lot of speculation within New York Democratic circles about Lowey’s retirement and Chelsea running for the seat. There is a belief that Chappaqua is a logical place for Chelsea to run, because it would be straightforward for her to raise money and build a powerful base,” a source told The Post.
Lowey previously stepped aside for Hillary to run in 1999 for the New York Senate seat vacated by Democratic Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan. However, Lowey, who is 79 years old, told TheDC she has no plans to retire in the near future.
“You’ll have to ask Chelsea. I’m running for office. I currently serve and the future will take care of itself. I will keep running,” she said.
Lowey added, “I don’t know who’s putting all those articles out, frankly, but you’ll have to ask Chelsea. I am currently running. I am currently serving the people of my district.”

That didn’t stop Obama from running for the Senate in 2004.
Poor Nita Lowy is the woman who was replaced by Hillary Clinton when she ran for the Senate. She was forced to step aside by the NY and DNC “machine” and now they are doing it to her again.
After the 2010 Census....they had to redraw the lines of the district. So, while the 17th is still mostly Democrat...(looking at 2012, 2014, and 2016)...you can say that Lowey’s safeness rests at roughly 54-percent. Eight-point lead.
If you found some football/baseball retiree...with a name, and put some positive PR behind the guy....I think that Lowey or even Chelsea Clinton could be defeated.
Look also at Lowey’s age. 79 years old. Zero chance she will be there to run in 2018. But I think the district would have a great opportunity for some change of face here. It’s not Democratic safe anymore.

Don’t these people know they’re to step aside and make way for the princess? After all, she’s... CHELSEA!
I don’t think she had the smarts to be a doctor or much else for that matter.
Chelsea running for Congress was nothing more than a ROTD.
And then Lowey said, "Ask Chelsea. I am currently serving and running for office. I don't know the future."
She quickly noted, "I am running and currently serving my people. The future is unknown, ask Chelsea. Someone's putting these articles out."
Nita Lowey is the same Congresswoman who was “asked” to step aside from running for the Senate seat vacated by the retirement of Daniel Patrick Moynihan. This allowed Hillary Clinton to then carpetbag to NY to vie for that seat.
So now Lowey is going to be asked to step aside again? Despite Lowey’s age, I doubt she acquiesces to the Clinton’s wishes.
Chelsea may be a liberal but she doesn’t seem to have the same kind of temperament as her parents to pick up the ball and take over. Kind of like the AJ Soprano of the Clinton crime family.
Count me in too.
