After Trump's win, Philly tries to cope through stages of grief -- but 'acceptance is not an option'

For many of the more than a million people in greater Philadelphia who backed Hillary Clinton for president, the language of political campaigns is inadequate to describe what they’ve experienced since the election returns came in.

Shissler Rec Center in Fishtown with chalk windows, symbolizing the co-opting of swastikas for the concept “Let in the Light.”

After Trump's win, Philly tries to cope through stages of grief -- but 'acceptance is not an option' Instead, they’re turning to the language of mourning.

“I lost both my parents by the time I was 23. I know what real debilitating grief feels like, and that is what this is,” said Justine Haemmerli, 32, of South Philadelphia.

“I felt like my grandmother died all over again,” said Steve Dolph, 34, of Mount Airy. "There was the same effect: nausea, disbelief, a sense of emptiness, devastation."

Yosef Goldman, 38, a rabbi at Temple Beth Zion-Beth Israel in Center City, put it in Jewish terms, naturally: “Many people are experiencing this as something of a shiva. But when everyone is sitting shiva, who brings the food? How do we find comfort when we’re all feeling at such a loss?”

Now, in a city where Clinton beat Donald Trump by a 5-1 margin, thousands of people are still fumbling for ways to cope.

Their responses have been personal and professional, political and practical.

I’m inclined to allow them some honesty. The Donald phenomenon has discombobulated them. Frankly it even discombobulates ME a little, and I was long back talking about how the Lord was ushering Donald in on His Spirit. But I am not yet completely conformed to that Spirit yet. I know it in the ways I fail daily. If it weren’t for the promise built in to the Christian faith, I should collapse in defeat and frustration. Instead, I see it as growing pains.

The lying corrupt Democrats still managed to be enough of a supportive presence to them (although inefficiently, and at the cost of gratuitously depriving others) that losing this is, indeed, a kind of death experience to them.

But for those who are willing to believe in the Lord, this is by no means the end of the story. With the death unto earth, will come life unto heaven.

Another descendant of Holocaust victims, Rachel Ezekiel-Fishbein, 52, a communications consultant from Cheltenham, began paperwork to apply for German citizenship.

That should work out well with all the riffraff Merkel is letting in.

In many recent presidential elections, big Demoncratic cities like Philadelphia, did not report their vote totals until most of the rest of the state was in. It is my belief that they waited to see how many additional votes they needed in order to win the state. The easiest way to fraudently get additional votes is for election judges to simply vote for people who didn't show up at the polls. This would be possible if there were no election workers who were real Republican. Dems fill the positions of Republicans when there are no Republicans willing to work there ( for example in precincts with high crime rates).

When I saw that Philadelphia had reported before many other parts of the state, I became very hopeful. Trump asked for supporters to serve as poll watchers. With a Republican election judge or poll watcher, when the poll closed with no further voters in line, there would be no way that the precinct head judge could add a few votes. He just had to get the totals and report them.

The fact that the Dems did not call for a recount in close elections is also suspicious. A recount includes closer scrutiny, such as comparing the number of signed receipts to votes or comparing signatures on those receipts to voter registration forms. Organizations like True the Vote have also been working for several years to clean up voter rolls.

I also haven't heard of places where more than 100% of registered voters voted this time. Less fraud leads to a better outcome for Republicans.

As they tell each other how cool they are, cry endlessly because they didn’t get their way, have temper tantrums, wet their beds and then whine about how unfair it is, the adults in the country watch in amazed contempt at just how disconnected from reality liberals are.

We knew liberalism was a mental illness or a shared delusion at best, the ongoing melt down shows just how foolish and stupid these people are.

“I began reliving a sexual assault that happened to me more than 11 years ago. ... I went to a therapist who diagnosed me with PTSD,” she said. “It became real for me that a sexual predator is the next leader of the free world. ... So suddenly, I'm 18 [again], under the crushing grip of my rapist.”

And yet this same loon had no problem with Bill Clinton, a literal rapist.

I saw a man interviewed in Lancaster about 2a.am on the 9th. He told the MSNBC reporter that there had been 120 Republicans working there this year. Messages had gone out to Trump supporters asking for drivers to take Amish people to the polls. I am sure that Religious liberty was big in their list of concerns. My gratitude to all who helped with this.

Losing both parents at that young age is a world-shattering experience. To compare that tragedy to an election loss shows a complete lack-of-perspective. Donald Trump — or any politician — is not going to ‘care for your’ the way your parents would. Nor should he. The problem with the Left is their philosophy is fundamentally incompatible with the world as it is.

They really are reacting like a 2 year old having a tantrum. It's unpleasant in a 2 year old. It's even less so with what should be an adult.

I assume by honesty you mean in their feelings of dispair. I do not deny those may be genuine, for some. My problem is with the media weaponizing it to cement in people’s mind the impression that Trump’s election was such a horrible thing that the general population is traumatized. Combine that with the use of phoney hired protesters, and repeated stories about the sudden “rise in reported hate crimes”. The media is trying to raise opposition to Trump among the American people so they will oppose his agenda. This effort must be challenged before the impression they are trying to create becomes widely accepted.

They are stuck on denial, anger and depression and, as you pointed out, ‘acceptance is not an option’.
