Fine. They get a pardon that they entered the country illegally - so we don’t prosecute them. The can still be deported for and commit a new crime each day they remain in the country illegally.
Can one be pardoned if you haven’t officially been charged/convicted of a crime?
pardon don’t do anything. So you won’t be charged for yesterday’s crime, but today’s crime are still ongoing

He can’t pardon them for future crimes...he can pardon them for having entered the country illegally but can’t pardon them for continuing to remain in the country illegally.
Blanket pardon without specific names is called amnesty. It carries the same force as individual pardons. Look it up in any actual legal dictionary.
Even Obama’s not stupid enough to do that - would be the biggest condoning of illegal activities against the People ever officially stamped and sealed. People are sick and tired enough with the wink-wink approach and this would push them (us) over the edge.

They may be pardoned, but that doesn’t resolve their immigration status. Still subject to deportation, just not fines/incarceration.

Since nobody is really being charged criminally for illegal entry a pardon would be meaningless. Obama can’t unilaterally make them citizens so they can be deported. If they re-enter the country then they could be charged for the new offense to the extent the law allows.
Before Obama leaves office he’ll probably pardon everyone in the country save for his brother.
Democrat constituents will have more options for affordable housing with current immigration laws being enforced.

Right. Pardons/amnesties are limited to specific dates.
That’s why most of the calls for ‘amnesty’ are lies. Presidential pardon/amnesty means the law will be enforced following the date of the pardon. Most calls for ‘amnesty’ are calls for open borders, as proponents do not wish enforcement in the future either.
I doubt he cares. I would LOVE to hear Trump state ‘the last 8 years in this country, the Laws on the books have either been ignored or flouted. That ends NOW’ in his Inaugural Address. The citizenry (and all those who aren’t legal citizens) needs to know that the LAW will mean something again. And breaking the LAW will have consequences.
