Donald Trump is planning to spend as little time in the White House as possible, according to reports. The president-elect's preference for his $100 million New York penthouse has called into question who will pay for the 90-minute commute to the capital by helicopter.
During the campaign trail, the businessman would often fly back late at night to his gold-bedecked luxury home in Trump Tower so he could wake up in his own bed. The New York Times claimed that Trump is already having discussions with advisers about how many days of the week he is required to spend in the White House.
He has reportedly told them he would like to spend time in New York whenever he can. Melania is understood to be expecting to make the move to Washington. But the couple's 10-year-old son, Barron, is midway through a school year at the private Columbia Preparatory School, in Manhattan. It has been reported that the 10-year-old could actually remain in New York with his grandparents and stay at his current school.
Trump is likely to spend most of the week in Washington, returning to Trump Tower or his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach on weekends.

Way too disruptive to the airspace
I think for safety’s sake he should be in WH most of the time.
Heck of a dilemma. Live in the White House, or Trump tower?
The president has to fly on AF 1, right?
Another dilemma.
5.56mm
No.
And from security viewpoint what he wants to do is far more dangerous. Will not go into details.
It’s going to take a while to fumigate the White House.
No . . . too many places for a stinger missile to be shot from, and there aren’t any ‘decoy’ AF 2’s.
Bad idea.
AF1 can’t land on the roof of Trump Tower
Pretty cool. But, I don’t believe it! Trump will be in D.C. draining the swamp! Maybe during his re-election campaign in ‘19-’20.
I doubt that will occur due to security factors. JMO
Yeah but I worked near his building so I know it well.
It seems much harder to secure.
There’s no fence to jump (not that that has mattered).
Little time to intercept and how do you get him out in a hurry by air if needed?
Trump is rich enough to build an air-tube like they had on the Jetson’s. Just step in and the air will blow him to 1600 just like one of the tubes at the bank drive-ups.
I can imagine security issues, as helis are obviously slower. But haven’t pad Presidents used Marine One?
Anybody think that Trump will do a low flyover of Manhattan like president Doofus did?
Nah, didn’t think so.
Do the Marines still provide helicopters to presidents including Bambi?
If so let them our president back and forth.
It Trump spent one eight hour day at the outhouse per week, he would be more effective than Bambi would be in months.
This is most likely the opposite of what may happen. Trump will relocate to the White House, but his wife will stay mostly in NYC, at least in the beginning.
Every time he flies, it increases the chance of accident/sabotage/attack.
Just make the move to the White House. It’s something that I’m sure your family will treasure. So few get the chance. Go home most weekends if you like.
We can’t risk anything happening to The Donald.
He should commute by rocket belt.
From his secret lair in the Catochin mountains.
That is a very bad idea. Too many opportunities for terrorists and too many opportunities for something to go wrong.
“Way too disruptive to the airspace.”
Airspace disruption will be minimal as Trump’s commute to and from work would only halt flights at. LGA, JFK, EWR, PHL and DCA for less than an hour each day.
Americans will be fully supportive and understanding of President Trump’s required travel for his commute.
