SILVER SPRING, Md. - More than one hundred students from several Montgomery County high schools staged a walk-out and march Monday to protest Donald Trumps presidential victory.
The demonstration began at Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring at around 10:30 a.m. Students at Northwood High School, Albert Einstein High School, and John F. Kennedy High School also reportedly took part in the protest.
The student protesters marched north on Route 29 to University Boulevard and then made their way to the Westfield Wheaton Shopping Center in Wheaton, Md. Police officers were close by as the students marched.
Some students held signs that read, 'Not My President' as they marched along the protest route.
The superintendent of Montgomery County Public Schools, Jack R. Smith, had already raised some eyebrows over a letter to parents last week calling the election "particularly difficult" and making counselors available so student deal with their "concerns and feelings." Many students took a cue, from that letter saying they didn't want to talk to a counselor they wanted to send a direct message to Donald trump.
On Friday, Smith issued his letter to parents - following the discovery of anti-Jewish messages in a Bethesda middle school. Smith says his goal in sending the letter was not to take sides in the president election results, but rather assure parents that school officials were prepared to assist student process the election results in a positive manner.
The demonstration lasted several hours. Some students who gathered outside of the shopping center moved to Silver Spring where the protests continued at Veterans Plaza.
No arrests or injuries were reported.
Maryland “Freak State” PING!
Lock the doors and leave them outside.
.
they obviously aren’t learning anything in school anyway.
Dock them for cutting class.
Of course. Teenage kids will jump on any bandwagon that gets them out of class.
Ship them all to Mexico.
Even the ones who claim to be citizens.
Love it or leave it.
Any missed exams should receive a zero without any possibility of makeup. Same for assignments due on the date of the walkout. They make choices and they learn that there are consequences to their choices - an excellent life lesson.
Truth is, they don't care if the students walk out....just as long as they're at school when attendance is taken. Gotta cash in that federal lunch money.
It’s not cold enough to make a point. Wait till they do it in January. Then lock the doors on them.
I was a high school teacher in Arizona when they tried the "day without a mexican" on May 1. One of four schools in our district caved. I am proud to say that ours took a stand and said it wasn't going to happen.
It didn't. A few students ditched by running out of the rear of the school area and jumped a fence into a canal. It was pretty obvious that their motivation wasn't political. The pot smoke from the mob roaming outside our school spoke volumes about motivation. They could have cared less what the cause was. It was just an excuse to get out of school for a day.
Our principal actually rounded two up at a local fast food place during lunch. He filed truancy charges against them.
The next year it wasn't even discussed.
Back in the day [parents were held responsible for their little bastards behavior in society, I think this has to come back in play
Courtesy of the Democrat Thug Party.
I wouldn’t feel safe around those punks.
In the mid-70’s I carried my rifle through the halls at Montgomery Blair High School because the range was in the basement.
Times change.
MARYLAND
Stayed in the Union as a SLAVE STATE, did not release their 90,000 slaves until Nov 1, 1864. Rejected both the 14th and 15th Amendments to the Constitution, giving former slaves citizenship and the right to vote.
Delaware did not release slaves until the 13th Amendment was passed. Did not ratify it until 1901.
“Many students took a cue, from that letter...”
It is not unusual for the students in a particular school being smarter than the administrators who run the school.
They got away from class and had a lark, good shot at hitting on a girl, etc.
Probably figured that they weren’t getting that much of an education under Common Core so they might as will use the Trump ploy to leave and smoke dope and commiserate with their parents.
I “lived” in montgomery country (monkey county) for 30+ years before escaping. It is the bottom of the cesspool and full of mentally ill LIBs. Whacked doesn’t begin to explain that place. It is hopeless there. Escape while you can.
And your point would be?
This seems to be my night for posting substitute teacher stories.
Once when I was subbing at a high school in an Hispanic area the students walked out to march for something - maybe Cinco de Mayo - and the group planned to meet up with some other protesters at some local spot.
Anyway, they took a wrong turn and got lost.
