Donald Sutherland ‘Ashamed’ of Being 'White Male,’ Who Are All ‘Misogynist Racists’

Appearing on the 9 a.m. ET hour of NBC’s Today on Monday, left-wing actor Donald Sutherland recalled being scolded by actress Helen Mirren on the set of one of his films: “Helen Mirren came up to me on the set and....she said, ‘You are the most privileged person on Earth’....I said, ‘How can you say that?’ And she said, ‘You are a white male.’”

Co-host Tamron Hall wondered: “And your reply to that was?” Sutherland proclaimed: “There’s no reply. I was ashamed. I was stunned. And I have gotten more ashamed. It's interesting to realize that you are seen as an integral part of a group that many of whom are mendacious, misogynist, of bigots, racists, and it's appalling.”

Hall followed up: “So what do you tell your – you have many, many grandchildren. What do you tell them?...what do you tell them to give them a hopeful view of life?”

How can I give them a hopeful view now? How can I give them a hopeful view? I have a wife, I have a daughter, I have a daughter-in-law and a granddaughter. What do I say to them? What do I say to them? Their women’s rights have gone, you know? The environment has gone, minimum pay has gone. What do I say to them? How do I – you know, I can only say one thing, I am a Canadian. And that's what I am.

DYLAN DRYER: And speaking of the movie with Helen Mirren, The Leisure Seeker, is that the one you were talking about?

DONALD SUTHERLAND: If I could do a thousand movies with Helen Mirren, I would, but that's the only one I've done.

SUTHERLAND: And it was – if it is a quarter as good as it was a joy to play, then it will be absolutely wonderful. Helen Mirren – you – Helen Mirren came up to me on the set and stood in front of me and said – in the middle of shooting, you know – and I love her. And she said, “You are the most privileged person on Earth.” And I said, “You're joking.” I mean, I've been very fortunate and I’ve had a wonderful life. But she said, “No, you're the most privileged person on Earth.” I said, “How can you say that?” And she said, “You are a white male.”

SUTHERLAND: There’s no reply. I was ashamed. I was stunned. And I have gotten more ashamed. It's interesting to realize that you are seen as an integral part of a group that many of whom are mendacious, misogynist, of bigots, racists, and it's appalling.

HALL: So what do you tell your – you have many, many grandchildren. What do you tell them? Several.

HALL: Several, I was think seven more. So, four grandchildren, what do you tell them to give them a hopeful view of life?

SUTHERLAND: How can I give them a hopeful view now? How can I give them a hopeful view? I have a wife, I have a daughter, I have a daughter-in-law and a granddaughter. What do I say to them? What do I say to them? Their women’s rights have gone, you know? The environment has gone, minimum pay has gone. What do I say to them? How do I – you know, I can only say one thing, I am a Canadian. And that's what I am.

A very high price has been paid by White males who bought and sustained Western civilization.

You are exactly right, and I am going to expound on that , if I may, by making three points:

1) Helen Mirren was smoking hot in her day. And, from a physical perspective, she is aging quite gracefully. Must have resisted the call of the plastic surgeon. Too bad she is a nutbag.

2) Another word for "privileged" is "successful". White men are "privileged" because they were the most successful race on the planet, militarily, scientifically, and culturally. Sure, other races, like the Chinese, Persians, Arabs (pre-Islam) etc. made some contributions, but the white guys were the ones who put it all together and, almost by default, ended up owning the world. Virtually everything that allows people to exist in large numbers now, anywhere in the world, is the result of the hard work, toil, innovation, vision, and suffering of the white man. So, when someone tells you that you are "privileged" just tell them that yes, you are "privileged" to be a member of the most successful group of people in history, and then explain to them that if they are enjoying the "privilege" of electricity, running water, computers, cell phones, and virtually everything else worth having, then they should feel free to thank the next white man they see.

Which leads me to...

3) If we had guns to our heads and absolutely had to call out the most "privileged" group of people on the planet, that group would have to be white women, especially left-wing white women. Why? Because all of the comforts and benefits of Western Civilization were built by white men, who then shared that with the white women without the women having to do jack squat, relatively speaking. White men toiled the soil, built the irrigation, built the ships, sailed the seas, dug in the coal mines, fought the wars, tamed the lands, and often died horribly doing so. They then handed the women the benefit of that.

So why are left-wing women especially "privileged"? Because at least conservative women tend to believe in the values that promote civilization, and then act on those values. Even now, conservative women are the ones having most of the babies, raising the children, supporting their husbands, and generally contributing, while left-wing women quite literally sit around doing nothing but BITCH about the very people who have provided them with the comfortable lifestyle that gives them time to bitch.

So, if a left-wing white woman ever calls you, a white man, privileged, just answer, "White men are successful, white WOMEN are privileged. You're welcome."
