“Trump has his faults, to be sure. He’s brash. He’s mouthy.”

Haven’t see either of these “traits” for a number of weeks. Trump did what he needed to do to get everyone’s attention to get himself elected, and from the look of things, he was singularly successful.

I agree with everything except perhaps this:

when Reagan served his two terms, the Globalists were set back twenty years.

Only because of the fact that as soon as George H. W. Bush took his place, the globalist once again were in the driver's seat with a compatriot in arms. After all, he was the first to utter the NWO and people took notice too, though not enough, myself included. Also, as much as I love Reagan he was somewhat duped by the "Free Trade" banner waving too, but not so completely that he wasn't afraid to enact tariffs on the Japanese motorcycles that were flooding into this country and about to completely eviscerate Harley Davidson.

Agreed on everything, but in my humble opinion, let’s drop all of these euphemistic code words and call the war that we’re in by it’s correct name: patriotism versus treason.

Donald Trump is the non-drinking Boris Yeltsin.

Barack Obama is the leader of the socialist personality cult that ran the Democrat Party off the rails, just as Michael Gorbochev did to the Soviet Union.

Donald Trump is the crass and uncouth populist who will take over and build the new politics, just as Boris Yeltsin did.

Always bear in mind that Trump is not a Conservative.... Conservatives will be disappointed, often, by Trump's leanings. But Trump is what we need, right now.

This is so very important. It'll be imperative that we don't forget it.

Nice essay, Laz.

I lived the Reagan years in Spain, so I didn’t experience him personally, but I remember my parents talking about him. They loved him.

I don’t have the time, but someone do some research for me, because the way I connect the dots is very different. There it goes:

I see people in this thread saying that globalism was not that bad in the Reagan era. The way I see it is that there was none; Reagan as a matter of fact was the enabler. That’s why I kept saying in the primaries to those who supported this person or that person because they were “Reagan like” that we are past that. We cannot emulate him anymore, except in the sense that he put America first.

My understanding is that America had a tough economy at that time, with extremely high interest rates. Reagan fixed it, but it was painful. Reagan was the first one who, through several mechanisms, truly liberalized the currency market. Reagan didn’t know what the consequences would be, he was experimenting. The result was that countries flooded America with money, everybody won. Then the free trade followed, then the free movement of people.

If Reagan was alive today, I don’t think he would support open borders (globalism) as it is today. Reagan goal was America first. Rubio, Cruz, etc. continue to say they want to follow Reagan policies, but that is not applicable anymore.
From the beginning I told my friends, Trump was the most Reganite of all.

Trump has had his encounters with politicians, most notably Ed Koch. Trump writes about Koch in his book ‘The Art of the Deal’.

One more thing. I think the potential this country has today, November 14 2016, is so enormous it totally surpasses anything seen yet. Trump will also have to fight the forces of evil (ISIS and still socialist mentality around the world; Reagan ended the cold war, but the communist ideas continued to spread around the world; America is the last stand. Thank goodness Trump won. It was the last chance).

although one can argue that all business in New York City is ultimately political.

Yes - thank you!

He's successfully maneuvered his way through NYC rules, regulations and roadblocks in general lo these many years.

How anyone can accuse him of being a political naif is beyond me.

Very well said. Reagan’s formative influences were WW2 and the Midwest. Trump, the 1960s and NYC. Largely stylistic differences. For all the sneering about “He’s no Reagan,” the similarities are there, IMO.

I would agree with your assessment. One thing more, like Reagan, I think Trump is a big idea kind of guy and will let his people fill in the details. Unlike Reagan, he’s not too humble and will take credit for every win.
