Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia did not appreciate what Harry Reid had to say after Trumps election victory upset. To quote the conservative Democrat correctly, he told Reid he was, an absolute embarrassment to the Senate as an institution, our Democratic party, and the nation."
Ouch.
Outgoing Senate Minority Leader Reid is not loved by Republicans, but to have a member of your party (and caucus) call you out so harshly should give you pause.
After Trump won the Electoral College, Reid referred to Trump as a sexual predator.
It may not be so surprising Manchin is taking this tone, however. Trump won West Virginia by a resounding 42-point margin. A Democrat in a state turning bright red, Manchin has had to be very careful navigating the political waters. He is already perhaps the most conservative Democrat in the Senate, but his election in 2018 may make him pivot even further right in the coming months. There were rumors that he may begin caucusing with Senate Republicans, but Manchin made clear this week he would continue as a Democrat while in office.
Its still very possible for conservative Democrats to win in West Virginia. Jim Justice handedly won his gubernatorial bid Tuesday night over Republican Bill Cole, but he had to convince voters he was leaving his choice for the presidency blank. The national Democratic brand is toxic in coal country.
Gearing up for 2018, Mancin may already be distancing himself from his national party. He went on to criticize Reids disgusting comments on Trump
"I want to be very clear, he does not speak for me. As difficult as it is for anyone to lose an election, the American people have spoken and Donald Trump is our President-elect. Senator Reids words needlessly feed the very divisiveness that is tearing this country apart," Manchin said. "We are Americans first, not Democrats or Republicans first. Unfortunately, there are some who forget that at times like these it is wrong to put party and politics above our country.
Manchin has an uphill battle in ‘18 in increasingly GOP-reliable W. Virginia. I wouldn’t be surprised if he openly caucuses with McConnell to support Trump’s agenda. Nor would I really raise an eyebrow if he pulls a Lincoln Chaffee and turns into an R.
It's sad that so many in government need to be reminded of that.

Uh-Oh, democrats waking up, gettin smart.
I say Uh-Oh because if they wise up to what is their downfall, they may just avoid falling into Hell and I so want to see them go there.
Senator Manchin needs to write the FBI and ask for RICO investigation(s) concerning the recent post-election related ,organized rioting. Soros. The Hollyweird Crowd, etc.
ROFL!
Then you know Joe!
I was watching MSNBC and the moderator was trying to bate some Republican representative by repeating Reid’s words and asking him what he thought. The man, whose name I didn’t catch, looked like a working man with an open collar and a thick Philly accent. He waved his thick hand and said “Reid’s just like some old bitter drunk at the end of the bar. No one pays attention to him.” That should leave a mark.
Agreed...There’s been a number of articles about Soros funding for these riots.
Please be more specific. Are you talking asphalt skid mark or underwear??
There is no such thing as a conservative democrat.
Where’s the part where the humiliated party extends its hand across the aisle and helps pass the new president’s agenda?
Instead, the lame duck pres and defeated candidate belatedly made fake “gracious” comments, and the paid Soros thugs began whipping up trouble the same night. Next day, Jugears disses his successor.
Curmudgeon ....He needs to excercise more.
Manchin is an opportunist and a liar himself, so......
I’ll give Joe the benefit of the doubt on this one, considering Harry POS is so disgustingly vile.
weve all been quite content to demean government, drop civics and in general conspire to produce an unaware and compliant citizenry. The unawareness remains strong but compliance is obviously fading rapidly - wikileaks - podesta-emails-bill ivey
