RALEIGH, N.C. The Trump train that carried Republicans to victory all over the South may have left one car behind in North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory, who trailed by a few thousand votes Thursday in a still too-close-to-call race that played out amid anger over the state's transgender bathroom law.
The law limiting LGBT rights appeared to have a substantial role in the Election Day contest between McCrory, who signed the measure and vigorously defended it against boycotts and other protests, and Democratic Attorney General Roy Cooper, who called for its repeal.

Exactly!
In a state Trump won so solidly, how could a governor who says boys should use the boys bathroom and girls the girls bathroom, not win by a similar margin?
That is a good question. I don’t think they have been counted yet - I know the provisional ballots have not been counted and they total tens of thousands of votes.
Yes, am sure the Dems wanted the NC Governorship badly - so badly that they were DEFEATED in the Trump election despite their best efforts....but are currently leading in the Governor race.
I am praying and giving to see that their tactics fail in the Governor’s race just as they failed in the Presidential race.
And good luck to all the fine folks in NC who voted for/supported the Governor!
We will see, if it is fraud it is from Durham county.
YES = we have to continue to help Governor McCrory out - giving to his legal defense fund (see NC GOP) and PRAYING for his final victory!
‘Pat’ is a personal friend of mine, we both majored in Business at the same college and graduated the same year. I had 10-12 classes with Pat, played intramural sports with Pat, know his wife, etc. But I’m not an insider, just someone who knew him very well almost 40 years ago.
Something is very fishy about this. Every R incumbent candidate in NC house and senate won, including Richard Burr and Patrick McHenry. It was a big R night for NC that also easily carried for Trump.
This stinks, there has to be more to this story.
The “rest of the story” is the Durham County precincts that were allowed to stay open later than the mandated closing time.
This is a tactic the Dems use in other places in the nation.
It may have worked here too.
Glad you know Pat McCrory personally. He seems to be a really good guy.
Thank you for getting this information out to us. I sent $100. Let’s not allow the dems to steal this one like they did in Virginia with McCauliffe.
Cooper is a leftist sorry ass of the first degree. He praised Obamacare and McCrory tied it around his neck. NC Obamacare premiums going up like every place else. On top of that McCrory was praised for his handling of the recent hurricane floods. Plus he brought jobs back to the state. There is no conceivable reason why the governor is losing this race except for VOTER FRAUD! Even if the dems manage to steal the race for Roy Obama he’ll get nothing done as governor because both houses in NC are controlled by republicans and it’s veto proof.
NC despite often Republican votes for other offices is like WV in that it prefers Democrat governors overall. McCrory has a real crisis here.
Repubs have super majority in both chambers.
At one time, the NC governor did not have veto power. Has this changed?
I agree he is a nice guy. If McCrory ends up losing NC after all the votes are counted I hope President Trump will remember him in his administration. When Trump was in Wilmington on Saturday he brought McCrory up to the stage and said McCrory had been behind him and supported him from day one. I hope that loyalty can be rewarded somehow.
fraud alert! fraud alert!
Here’s hoping the Legislature in NC has more backbone than the US Congress has shown in recent years. :-)
Actually, I think a little cheating went on with Durham at the last minute.
An extra 90,000 votes emerged.
It has been proven over and over again that Republicans never win close elections, the counting and counting goes on until the Dim get the lead, and then the counting stops.
I live in Durham County and agree with you.
They kept the polls open beyond the normal closing time in Durham county to give people extra time to vote.
Part of Chapel Hill is divided between Durham and Orange Counties. I think it was Jesse Helms who once said in response to a proposal to open a state zoo in Raleigh, “If North Carolina needs a zoo we can just put a fence around Chapel Hill!”
