Presidential landslides traditionally require a ten-point margin of victory in the popular vote, but this year, political traditions don't matter. President-Elect Trump has carried at least 28 of the 50 states, and if the leads hold, he will have carried 30 of the 50 states, or 60 percent. This landslide includes states Democrats assumed were reasonably solid for Hillary like Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
Republicans will control the Senate without needing the tie-breaking vote of Vice President-Elect Pence, although the margin of control will depend upon the final count in New Hampshire. It will not matter, though, whether the majority is 52 seats or just 51, because in 2018, Democrats face the prospect of losing as many as a dozen seats because of the composition of the Senate class that year. This election required Republicans to defend seats in difficult states like Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Illinois, and New Hampshire. In 2018, not a single Republican Senate seat will be in jeopardy, which will give President Trump and the Republican Senate breathing room to act boldly.
The loss of only six seats in the House leaves House Republicans with 235 seats. Because Louisiana will have runoffs in two districts and Republicans are running ahead in two California districts still undeclared, it is likely that Republicans will end up with 237 seats, or a loss of only four. Reapportionment and redistricting after the 2020 election will almost certainly have Republicans even more firmly in control of redistricting of House and state legislative districts than ever before, which means that Republicans in the House will see their numbers grow after Trump wins re-election in 2020.

I have relatives in WI, burb of Madison... NOT everybody likes lyin Ryan... only those that do NOT mind him sticking it to 'we the people' under Obamanation... And the Governor was really really slow to figure out Trump was the path to victory. Ryan's middle finger to our VETS and his Syrian refugee outreach was beyond the 'Snake' ... Ryan is that 'pretty woman' in the Snake.
I have been hearing about WI politics first hand since Gov Doyle... AND at the beginning of the presidential race I was a Walker supporter until he showed his 'GOPe' colors.
Whenever anyone calls our country a Democracy, I stop them and politely correct them. Education has diluted the concept of a republic and why it exists. We need to drill this into our kids and let them know that it is a must in a free society...
Did anyone predict the exact outcome of the 50 states in this election spot on? In the media or on forums like this? This would’ve been a hard one.
I posted my map the day before and only missed FL, WI, and NH. By Monday I could tell from the early vote reports as well as the campaign schedule that he was having significant trouble in the “hot” states outperforming Romney, but he was finding unexpected support in “cold” states.
I wish I could rewatch election night again on different channels. Been watching a few clips from the liberal channels and they’re quite entertaining! Not sure if any networks have their whole election night coverage posted online for viewing.
Me too. I wish I had recorded one of the Alphabet channels on the spare TV, and taped the Fox Business channel with Lou Dobbs, who made no secret of his support for Trump.
As soon as they called Florida for Trump, I knew the tide had turned, just felt pretty sure that he would win. Before Florida, I was planning on making it an early night.
That would have been the first time since 1960, that I did not stay up as long as needed to see the final results. I did stay up in 2000 to learn that W was elected, and then that Al Gore withdrew his concession. Couldn’t stay up for all the weeks of dangling chads. LOL
Anyway, after Florida, I knew I’d be watching until the Chickens came home to roost.
