Voters in the District of Columbia passed a measure on Tuesday in favor of petitioning Congress to become a state in the union.

79 percent of voters cast votes in favor of the ballot measure, which splits the district into a residential state with a small federal district in the middle of it for government buildings and monuments, as we have reported.

And only 4% voted for Trump, versus 70% in Wyoming and 69% in W. Virginia.

Hell NO! Only if we get to make TX two states!

Actually, Texas could divide itself into five different states...

It is already two States fixing to be one, if you don't enforce immigration laws.

They can petition all they want. Doesn’t matter and isn’t going to happen.

The thought of having two (liberal) senators representing such a small area is patently ridiculous.

Oh great, another effin' way to get around what the Founding Fathers set up.

Maybe the crack of every lefties azz could be made a State, too, then we'd have millions of additional Senators and Representatives to fight over what they bleed out of working people.

Just outlaw residences in DC other than the White House, that'll pretty well end this line of BS intended to create two permanently leftist black Senators.

The residential part of DC can join either MD or VA, if they want full congressional representation.

Simplest solution. Fair to everyone.

"The residential part of DC can join either MD or VA, if they want full congressional representation."

I agree. Statehood is absurd. The Virginia portion of the original district has already been returned to Virginia. If residents want representation then most of the Maryland portion can be returned to Maryland. Done.

Correct.

And as much as I love my entire state, if the libs pushed more lib states, resulting in rat Congress or Electoral College, IF no other avenue, including seccesion, were viable; as a last resort, i could support 5 Texas’s. Sadly. If it would restore liberty. (in my mind, secession and revolt are better options but not welcome either)

Agree. And if they don’t want to be what they are, but still live there, then just have the residential parts revert back to being part of Maryland.

The Virginia portion of the original district has already been returned to Virginia.

Good to know. I guess that should have been obvious to me - with the southwesterly boundaries of the DC rectangle being non-existent on modern maps.

http://www.heritage.org/constitution#!/articles/4/essays/125/new-states-clause

New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new States shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or Parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress.
Article IV, Section 3, Clause 1

If I read this correctly it was an effort in name only? How do you read it?

Agreed, however, West Virginia violated that article.

Can Memphis be walled off and excluded from the rest of TN?

Texas, like most states, has it’s own unique identity. I don’t think splitting it is feasible. Secession is always on the table, however.

We’re hoping the New Madrid Fault will shear it off and it will go floating down the Mississippi.

Yes, I thought someone would call me out on that. It’s a fair and good point, but I think overall, especially with regards to the Presidency, Virginia is still much closer than Maryland.
