MD has a GOP Governor, VA doesn’t.
Aint gonna happen.
They want to be part of a state? Fine. Give the residential areas back to Maryland. Done.
For DC proper, have it be the case that DC has no welfare or other benefits program. If you do not have a job, move to Maryland, Virginia, or elsewhere.
This must NOT happen.
We are going to have a Constitutional Amendment on term limits and we will need 38 states to ratify. DC statehood would stop that process as DC would most assuredly vote against ratification.
Same for Puerto Rico.

DC is actually a swamp. That’s why it was donated by VA and MD. The southern half eventually was given back to VA............

Wouldn’t it require a constitutional amendment to make DC a state?
It makes more sense for the District of Columbia to copy the State of Virginia that has already shown the way to annex a part of the District, 31.66 sq. miles.
Maybe the District should be more like one square mile rather than the original 10 mi x 10 mi area.
The State of Maryland could annex the suburban portion of DC.
DC is now 68.34 sq miles.
Maryland already has a governing structure in place, and could use the tax revenue, and extra house members resulting from the increased population that would be assigned to the State of Maryland.
Congress should allow this under no circumstances. As a matter of fact, the people living in the seat of government should not be allowed to vote on any Federal Issue.
No way that cesspool should be a State. Oh, and let’s get the UN out of New York...

California needs to be broken into at least two states. Cut off the coast, and people tell me the rest is pretty conservative.
When Texas was admitted as a state it was with the idea we would be divided into 5 states.
If they want to shrink the federal district, then just give the freed-up land to Virginia and Maryland.
